Broken ribs

It's going to hurt for awhile, and it's easy to reinjure them. Just try to be very careful in how you move.

The general rule I've been told over the years for bone breaks, broken ribs, muscle tears, etc. is 6-8 weeks. But that depends how fast you heal, your tolerance for pain, whether you keep reinjuring yourself, etc.

My condolences, and good luck.

In one fall from a 8ft ladder I broke 7 ribs, my collarbone, my tailbone, my cockx, and I can tell you all about pain. Therapy included cutting up that POS Aluminum ladder into small little pieces. Bone pain and healing is very tiring. Sleep is helpful, however finding that position to sleep can be a PITA.

I must've been some kind of miracle case but 5 years ago I got run over while crossing the street. Woke up one morning and sat up and it felt two ribs were touching but no pain.

X-ray later confirmed fracture.

I empathize with you.
Three sets of broken ribs and a broken tail bone. Tail bone is worse if that makes you feel any better.
If they gave you one of those elastic post-birth wrap arounds they give new moms and hernia op patients, it helps when your just sitting moving around, but you'll still need to hug yourself or a pillow if you cough or sneeze.
Hope you don't hurt too long.

I'm still recovering from 6 broken ribs, a broken scapula and a lacerated spleen. 10 weeks out now and I still have some rib pain when I lay down and I still can roll on the injured side. Definitely take it easy and try not to fall again.

My doctor also has me on a vitamin D supplement and I been using this bone restore OTC supplement for the last two months - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009E9YK90?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1

Varies depending on where, how severe, age, and a few other things.

Ace elastic bandages ( you'll need several of the wide ones ) wrapped all the way around and several layers thick helps a lot in first few weeks. When it slightly restricts breathing and you also feal it when you twist or bend, then you have it wrapped right.

I broke ribs 3 times. Earliest when slipped on ice going down steps in grade school. Once leaning over back of my sailboat to get something out of back hatch, and one other time. Those first two still can sometimes cause discomfort now many decades later, but not often.

The first month of healing is the worst of it.

In two incidents 5 years apart, I've broken 7 or 8 ribs. Yes on the pain, and FWIW, broken bones make you tired, so get more sleep for a proper recovery. Stay away from funny people or videos.

Yea, coughing, laughing and sneezing are pretty much awful. I hope you're doing ok and taking easy. It definitely get's harder the older we get when it comes to recovering. If you can, pace your self with tasks and take lots of breaks and naps if possible. That has helped me a ton. The doctor told me to try to cough a few times a day because there can be a risk of pneumonia with broken ribs.

Sorry. Hang in there 😥

Thanks. No xray pic unfortunately. Although I do go today for follow up to make sure it’s healing ok.

I have cracked my several times mountainbiking. Had to sleep in a recliner for about a week. Nothing you can do but deal with it basically and manage pain. Muscle relaxers help as well. My 86 yo dad just broke 2 - same, just have to manage pain and sleep in a chair.
