Stumbled yesterday and fell back/side first into the ledge of our bay window. Ambulance ride and 9 hours later x-ray shows two broken ribs. Can’t do anything about it other than pain management. Cannot even currently get up off the couch lol… This is brutal.

Anyone else been through it? Can I be up and doing anything at all in a few days…?

I broke some ribs...the pain is extreme. I remember I could stand up straight, but if a 4 year old was to say "give me your wallet or I'll give you a shove" I would have handed over my wallet.

Sorry to hear, it can be rough indeed. I broke one of my right side ribs a few years back in a strange way. Playing with my son; I was on my knees and he ran towards me, jumped at the last minute and his knee went into the rib. Bizarre, but that sucker hurt! Sleep was difficult for a few weeks.

Pain management and adjust your sleeping as needed. Speedy healing my friend.

I've busted the lower cartilage ribs on two separate occasions. Everything was difficult. Much worse then when I broke my pinkie, and cracked my shoulder. My sympathies.

Been there, done that. The brighter side is that when ribs break, they are usually non-displaced fractures that heal on their own without surgery. And bones are living tissue that heals pretty fast if a person is otherwise healthy. But yeah, one definitely feels it.

It's going to hurt REAL bad for a while, 2 weeks to 2-3 months, and then it's going to hurt for another 6 weeks to 6 months.

I cracked one last year, was functioning ok within 6 weeks. I broke one when I was about 22, it hurt bad for a month or so and bothered me maybe 2-3 months. I broke another one when I was about 40 and it felt like I was going to die every day for 3 months, and I could feel it for at least 6 months after. They are all different depending on where it broke and how bad it broke.

Went to work the day after breaking some ribs in an accident, but I did all my work pretty much with 1 arm for 6 weeks.

I felt better, bought another car and when trying to screw the license plate on the front bumper with slf-tapping screws, I heard and felt a snap, and had another 6 weeks of pain.

Had them a couple...
About 30ish years ago, was down the coast on a body board, in REALLY shallow water...wave broke over me, bord dug into the sand, and I stopped instantly ... 4, two each side.

Nevertheless, the holiday house my parents booked needed my brother and I to carry my sister and her wehelchair up and down a fligth of stairs a couple times a day...wasn't fun.

No painkillers, I don't use them, even broken foot...made some comfrey ointment (US indian name is knotbone)...could hear the ends clicking in the bath if I moved...worst was my then partner rolling over in bed, and recracking them just as they started to knit/become stable.

Not broken ribs, but something possibly equal. Had a collapsed lung and they had to go in through the rib cage and staple it shut. Made a 10" incision under left arm and up my back. As someone else said, you don't realize how much you use your core muscles...to just be vertical. And breathe deeply, which they made you do. No sudden moves, either. I had to go on walks when I got home. Once, I pushed my self just a little bit farther and almost didn't make it back home due to the pain.

This is the problem I’m worried about. I can feel them moving around and I just hope they can heal without re-breaking a few times 😬

I'm sorry to hear this and hope you heal quickly. Unfortunately, every time I break ribs, somebody makes me laugh, resulting in agony, which makes me laugh harder. A vicious circle of torment, that strangely, now makes me laugh.

I heal slowly, so it takes me about 2 weeks before I can do anything at all, like inhale. And probably 3 months before I'm good enough.
