If you continue onto the survey rankings on that site, it'll show that this tire is currently #1 rated in the UHP all-season category.

They're good tires, alas a bit expensive. I put a set on my car about a month ago. So far so good. Granted they don't handle as crisply and don't grip as well as dedicated summer tires, but if you don't drive at the limit, it shouldn't be a big deal. In return, they should give a bit longer treadlife.

I'm curious to see how they'll behave in light snow.

Me too. I was planning on putting a set of Goodyear TT on the car, but I'll be waiting until these wear out now. Not that that is a bad thing. The previous owner actually serviced the car before putting it up for sale, instead of letting me find everything that was due.

i have them on my vehicle and i love them. They are great in the rain- i have snow tires so i cannot say how they do in the snow.

I will probably get the same tire when this set wears out.

Im interested in noise... Not sure I can trust the numeric reviews on the tire rack. How would you rate the 960 vs the tires you had on before?

My Pirelli P6 OEM tires have 38k miles and are nearly as new, but are seemingly getting noisier (especially compared to my goodyear eagle snow tires!), and UV is starting to take its toll... 70+k miles would be doable is I didnt see all these small cracks in the rubber...

Id like a decently quiet tire that provides good performance. I am a bit put off that the 960 in p215/55r16 is made in mexico, not japan or the US.

Mine are made in mexico as well - so far I haven't found any problems due to this fact, but then again, I only had them for a little over a month.

With regards to noise, they are generally quiet, but going over highway expansion joints results in pretty noticeable thump sound. My previous Dunlop SP Maxx did not make such a noticeable sound. So, if you have plenty of those perpendicular expansion joints in the roads that you drive on, you may find it a bit annoying. Of course, the wider the tires, the worse it'll sound. For example, mine are 235/45/17 and generate a noisier thump than my g/f's tires (also RE960) in size 195/65/15.

With regards to noise overall, it is typcal for all tires to become more noisy as they wear, especially if some uneven wear patterns develop due to alignment issues or just the characteristic of your car's suspension. Those Dunlops that I mentioned were whisper quiet when I got them, but by the time I hit 15k miles, they became really annoyingly noisy. I was glad to dump them at 20k miles.

I just got these tires. Definitely a bit stiffer than my h-rated P6 OE tires. Nice and quiet, but then again, they are new. Fast curves are noticeably better handled, and the overall handling characteristics of the car are improved.

Happy with everything but the fact that they were made in Mexico. Was also considering Yokohama S drive and H4S/V4S tires, but neither was available locally at a good price, and I was very happy with the local firestone tire shop.

Firestone is generally good repair service. Good in a pinch or for noobs. Tire service is very good there. Makes a few bucks cheaper elsewhere not worthwhile.

I have RE960's in 205/55/16 W rated on a WRX at 5/32" wear @ 30k miles.

I love the tires and they remain incredible in terms of quiet, dry traction and wet traction.

The winter traction is terrible now due to wear(5/32" depth). If I have to commute next year for next job I will shed the tires before next winter season.

Incredible tires.

Old thread but I thought I'd give an update in case anyone searches for these.

I've had these for about 15-20k miles as a replacement for the RE950s and these are much noisier and do not grip as well. Taking moderate corners with these will squeal and skid a little compared to the 950s which cornered better and silently. Normal wet and dry are similar to the 950s, which is excellent.

I had the Re960's on my Mercedes in H rated. They were quiet in the beginning but after 5000 miles they got really, I mean really loud! For long distance driving the rumbling noises really got to me when I did the drive from Las Vegas to San Francisco. I was able to get 30,000 miles out of them in 6 yrs. They were down to the wear bar mark right at 30K. They do perform very well. I could corner great and fly through wet roads during rainy season.

Just switched to Michelin Primacys. The noise level is low to none. I dont hear a rumbling anymore but I do notice that I cannot corner as well because of the soft sidewalls. Curves I normally take at 60-70mph I cannot do now without feeling like I am about to roll over. It really comes down to what you want out of your tires. Cant have comfort and performance along with good tire wear.

Overrated.

Who did this comparison test? According to TR's rankings and tests, ContiExtremeContact DWS is even better.

But yeah, RE960's snow capabilities are definitely lacking, hence I don't use them during winter.

Do you guys have mostly asphalt in Illinois as roads? They are very loud on concrete in Las Vegas and Interstate 5 too in CA. This was before the recent repave with asphalt which is quiet.

Yeah, mostly asphalt around where I live. When it comes to concrete, most (if not all) tires will sound more noisy, in my experience.

Put a set of RE960s on my wife's BMW with sport package. They beat the heck out of the run-flats in terms of ride and wear, and I haven't really noticed any reduction in traction. Sticks to the road like glue here in the Deep South. If they last longer than 30k, I'll be putting another set on.

I have them, not happy with them. I'm tempted to call Costco and see what they can do to prorate these for Michelins instead.

Mine are made in Japan.
