My set were made in Japan as well. I ve seen the new ones Made in Mexico now. No need to call. Just go in and talk to the tire manager and they will hook you up. They have a great satisfaction guarantee plan at Costco. Sometimes the manager might give you some static depending on the store you got it from. Tell them you will call Jim (the owner of Costco) and they will change their mind. There is actually an 1 800 number listed for his office.
The best tire shop in the Bay Area would be Foster City, CA. Pretty easy going there.
