Brand New CTS 3.6L - First Oil Change

Factory fill gets load of shaved metal, fuel dilution, silicon and could shear earlier. I would dump the oil 600~1000 miles.
I would also change the second fill in 2000 mile and then stick to regular schedual from the third fill. It is your car and your money. I would consider the early oil change in new car money well spent.

The manual in my friend's 2007 Pontiac G5 with the ecotec actually says to change the first fill after 1000km. Apparently, this is because the ecotec cylinder head uses a "dirty" casting process; sand casting? cold casting? I don't remember.

I don't agree with your decision to stick with M1. The only reason it is factory fill is because Mobil and GM struck a deal. If you aren't going to care about getting top tier oil like RedLine, Royal Purple or Amsoil, just go with whatever is cheaper when you are near your chosen OLM reading.

By the way, FWIW in regards to syntec shearing, PP 5W-30 also shears almost every UOA to a thin 30 or thick 20w.
