Brake piston tool rocks!

Does anybody else just "love" retracting the screw-in type rear brake caliper pistons? For years I slowly and painfully used needle nose pliers, often mangling the piston or boot in the process. Then I discovered this goofy socket which works a little better- IF it fits.

Well, while doing the Explorer brakes, my goofy little tool didn't fit. Approx 2 minutes of web crawling and I found the OEM 27111 tool:

Plus, Autozone stocks them in their loaner tool inventory. Man, what a difference! Almost like it was designed for the job. Might just have to purchase my own next time!

It is amazing how having the right tool for the job makes the job easy. Amazon has kits for under $25.

I made one to do SAAB brakes (not breaks) but on the old 900s the handbrake was on the front wheels.

Those have been around for about 30 years.

Many times just using a large flat blade screwdriver does it.

I have one of those square things but I've never had to use it. I never had brakes that called for it. I sent my woman friend to the parts store to get a clamp once so I could retract pistons and the parts store guy gave her that. I kept it and I might actually get to use it on the Mazda at some point.

I just got one of these, a "Cartman" branded 21 piece kit for $21. Used it when helping out a relative with their Murano; I am kicking myself for not getting this sooner.

I did the free rental thing from Autozone when I needed this tool for my GTI's rear brakes. Very handy.

I plan on getting one.
