I'm seeing several namesyou mean caliper spreader?
Does the ratchet have forward and reverse?I’ve got this one. It works decently, sometimes you need to “hand compress” to get the ratchet to engage.
EWK Spreader.
Does the Ratchet have forward and reverse ?This is the simplest one to use for dual piston calipers:
Lisle Dual Piston Caliper Tool
This one is for single piston calipers:
Lisle Single Piston Caliper Tool
The Lisle pistol style tools are much easier and quicker to use than the ratcheting style shown below because the ratcheting type freewheels until it is under tension as RamFan indicated above. I own both style tools and never use the ratcheting one.

fascinating the pic of the dual piston looks like my wife's GM car, literally. This is the simplest one to use for dual piston calipers:

it's for a floating, not a fixed, caliper, right?
Does the Ratchet have forward and reverse ?
Yes, it is intended for the more common floating caliper design, not fixed brake caliper.it's for a floating, not a fixed, caliper, right?
Correct. OP asked for a spreader, which is a somewhat generic term.it's for a floating, not a fixed, caliper, right?
Yes, it does. That’s what has trouble engaging on occasion, but it’s never not worked.Does the ratchet have forward and reverse?
That one looks decent too.I’ve got this one. It works decently, sometimes you need to “hand compress” to get the ratchet to engage.
