Brake pad rubbing on rotor

Hello,

I've got an interesting situation that I don't really know how to explain. On the back passenger brakes, the pad is rubbing on the rotor, but it's not a constant rubbing. It seems like it rubs on a certain part of the rotor as it passes between the two pads. I really hope all this makes sense.
Anyway, could this be caused by a warped rotor?

Thanks.

Actually the rotor is not warped in the true sense of being warped. Its of uneven thickness around the face of the rotor. A dial gauge could be used to check for lateral run out.

The rotor may be able to be turned, maybe not. Good rotors can be bought for $35. Maybe not be worth turning the rotor.

The pads and caliper need to be inspected, maybe its not properly floating.

go find some backroads and repeatedly brake HARD from like 60 to 5mph
do this like 5-6 times in a row
maybe you will be able to burn/grind off the gunk causing the uneven thickness
if it doesn't work you will need new rotors and pads anyway...

The high spot on the rotor may be pad material and easily cleaned off with a stiff brush. Often can be done with out taking anything apart. But since tou have the caliper off, it is even easier.
