Someone on another board suggested to a poster that he should put in a little brake fluid in his transmission to soften and condition the seals.

I feel stoopid for asking, but in all my years of listening to stoopid stuff coming out of peoples mouths, this takes the cake.

Or am I wrong about this?

you are wrong.
it's for OLD old cars....read more, and how many people have tried it with success in the past...I'm talking cars from the 50s and 60s that putter around...

Read more? Please post up a link or links.

I think there are better alternatives than brake fluid.

Do a search on "+brake +transmission" on the ATF forums, minus the quotes. (leave the +s there)

While you're at it, sawdust in the motor oil helps too. And, I have some prime property to sell in the everglades.

Because someone claims that it worked, is for you to test yourself. Anyone willing to sacrifice a transmission for science? Mythbusters?

I guess that some people will try anything not to flush or simply top off their ATF. Who knows, maybe just topping off their transmission would've helped!
Old transmissions are simple and cheap to rebuild. We also have high mileage ATF for some time now.

Don't do it!

You've got it all wrong. There is a product at your parts store that works really well in an automatic transmission. It's called automatic transmission fluid. Works well, I've tried it myself with good results. I got this info from an old timer that used it in his cars, too. He claimed it really works, no kidding.
