That seems new. Did they switch to DOT4 as well?

Since we are going off-topic anyway, I should add that Prestone recently introduced new DOT3 and DOT4 fluids with an advertised service life of 100K and 75K, respectively. Brake systems are fairly well sealed nowadays so I don't think moisture contamination is truly an issue.

Yep, DOT 4, good call.

I’ve ran into countless issues myself trying to do the right thing with my automotive fluids. I did research on the oil recycling process and it will get separated supposedly. My county has a USELESS recycle program but luckily my neighboring county lets me drop off my automotive chemicals at their facility. They were the only one in north Alabama I could find that would take my coolant. I had accumulated nearly 15 gallons over the years because no one would take it.

When I had a body shop the hazardous waste disposal service would analyze the waste at some point and if it had so much of a % other than paint and thinner waste they would fine me, or sur charge, what ever you wish to call it. The same goes for oil waste, if it had so much of a % of antifreeze or brake fluid or "Other" they would fine, or sur charge me.
Same with the company that collected the waste oil from my shop - the contract said if I had antifreeze etc in the oil I would be charged a decontamination fee for their tanker. They had a specific use for the oil I guess, other collection companies don't seem to care. Brake fluid is an excellent weed killer.

I pour mine on my railroad tie parking barriers. keeps the rot down, soaks in quickly and seem to keep weeds at bay. The ants don't like it either.

I was told by our local recycling place to mix it with oil.

If that isn’t the case, a few pints mixed with my ~20-30 quarts of used engine oil is really nothing and will be even less when mixed in a 300 gallon tank.

I treat all fluids this way minus antifreeze. No issues with the recycling center.

I take it to the local hazardous waste site, with my waste oil and coolant. Drive up, open the trunk and off it goes. Just have to keep them separated in their own bottles.

I put every used automotive chemical in an empty cat litter container and drop off at the dump. Antifreeze, brake fluid, oil, atf, maybe a grain or two of cat litter.
