Bought some various brands of oil filters today for my 1990 CRX and 1988 Civic.
I found these at a local Automotive parts store here in Toronto.

Been using Bosch 3312 on my Honda's without a hiccup, but wanna try some others.

Here's some pics and prices that I paid.

1. Mann ML1002 - Made in USA - Paid $4.95 each

The Bosch and Mann, since they are US made Models, are Purolators.
not insinuating anything good, bad, or otherwise, Just Putting the info out there.

Of all filters above, Baldwin B161S is the longest filter at 4" long, about 1" longer than Honda OEM filter ? It crosses to Baldwin B199 and B202, B199 is very long at 5 3/8". My S2000 has plenty of room to accommodate the extra long B199.

The Mann is basically the equivalent of a Puro Classic, and the Bosch Prem the equivalent of the P1 PL14459, generally spec'd for pre 2001-02 Hondas.

Those Mahle micro star filters from Austria are top quality long use filters, VW and Audi use them as the OEM on most of their cars.

Cans are thick, ADBV is silicone on most applications and the media is very sturdy.

And that is a Canadian price !

Anyone know why the Baldwin B161-S and B1402 are so different in size ?
They are both for basically the same engine.

If anyone has cutouts for the baldwin or Man filters, please post them.

Great find...I have the exact same Mann filter and the Mahle filters in my stash. I'm going to run the Mann filter on my accord next oil change and see what it looks like after 5k miles. After that I'm running the Mahle.

This doesn't make sense. Honda basically specs one filter for all their models (except the S2000, NSX, etc). Honda went to a narrower filter a few years back (A01 & A02), yet most aftermarket companies still spec the fatter filter (eg Fram PH3593a) for older models. Why Baldwin would spec two different size filters for exactly the same engine is beyond me.

I could be wrong, but I think most Honda oil filters are interchangeable. I've used the shorter, fatter style (Purolator 14459, Fram 3593A) and the longer, thinner style (Purolator 14610, Fram 7317) on my Integra and noticed no difference. For example, Honda specifies one that looks identical in size to the 14610 for my vehicle (the A01/A02 that they use on almost all Hondas aside from the S2000, IIRC)... yet all of the oil filter companies recommend the fatter 14459 style for my vehicle. You might be able to just stock one size for all of your Hondas.

The thing is, the Baldwin B1402 is shorter AND narrower, not fatter !
Why is that ? Maybe to fit other applications ?

Anyone notice the "Made in USA" fonts on the boxes of the Baldwins are different ? Could 1 be a fake ?

Did you just buy a lifetime supply of oil filters? Really? When the zombies take over, you'll have plenty for a long time.

Seriously, given the media tearing problems, the Bosch and Mann filters could be stinkers (Purolators). At least when they do tear, all the pictures I've seen have only shown small holes, and not that many. ... Baldwins are known to be solid, good choice there.

Yes there is a different font but they look legit to me. And if you were going to go to all the trouble to make that good of a fake, why Baldwin for an auto application? They are tiny in that market, heavy equipment would be a different story. JMO.

Yes, there is some mounting, strong evidence to suggest Purolator-made oil filters tear a little bit inside near the seams in the media. Lots of pictures on BITOG with that.

As was already indicated, I wouldn't worry about that in the least, particularly from your supplier.
