Ray, I like that phase, either SM1/2 or SM+, and I think we will see some more additive technology get rolled out before the launch of the GF-5/SN oils in 2010.

And obviously the big change for 2010 will be the use of GTL base oils & the new additives designed for these oils.

You have to remember that Havoline was such a great oil people hate to see something that works change. Remember price point is what made this oil so popular. Now it changed it's look. Took it self out of the bargain range and took it self to the premium price range. So I can understand.

I just don't understand why they think they had to change Havoline. What was wrong with it the way it was? I'm a firm believer in not fixing something that isn't broke.

Don't get me wrong with my remarks above... I was making fun of marketing in general, and poking at the brands that spend so much on their catchy marketing that I will not pay their regular retail shelf prices.

I like and use Chevron/Havoline lubricants. And as far as the big oil goes, I prefer Chevron as a company to both Shell and ExxonMobil. I am sure the all generally continue to improve their products, and this evolution of Havoline should be good as usual.

Seriously though, I knew it was Spanish, I guess all labelling in the south is also in Spanish? Up here our labels are also bilingual, in English and in French (even though the French speaking population in Canada is probably less than 2% of the total population, for some strange reason every label on every product in the entire country is in French too)

Seems like this new oil might end the need for maintenance doses of Auto Rx and/or Lube Control:

"Advanced deposit control" "Patented antioxident technology"

Hmmmmm......

we have alot of illegals here in TN and the companies are putting out alot of spanish stuff on labels. you should see the local car commericals "se habla espanol"..trying to capitalize on that market..

I thought the bottles were coloured, not black? Anyway, I have a VOA of the new vs old Havoline coming from Bruce. I suspected the formula would stay the same, but the new label leads me to think otherwise. (rolls eyes)

Their color choices for each entity is odd. You would think they would of chose silver for the blend and gold for the synthetic.

Really doesn't matter here in Lower Michigan. All we get to see is the dino Havoline on shelves. Not a trace of any Chevron oils to be found here either. For whatever reasons, all that sells here is the Havoline dino. But now with such drastic price increases on the brand in the past 18 months, seeing the first-ever signs of dust on Havoline quart jugs in years to come may not be the unthinkable.

Herd mentality.

My guess is that their marketing people are following the standard set by Mobil 1: Silver equals premium/top tier synthetic.

Local Wal-mart now has the Deposit Shield Havoline side-by-side with the old formula Havoline. I thought they were trying to do like AAP, having clearance sale on old formula before the new arrives: Wal-mart had sale price of $1.97/qt, $23.64/case just before the end of December. Now, since the first of the year, it is all back to the original price of $2.16/qt. That includes the old formula as well as the new Deposit Shield. Maybe because they don't have to compete with AAP any more on clearance price for old?

Alert, as I am about to go

At former job (I am, as always have been, in US), we were considering doing business with Sears Canada. We were told to print shipping labels in English and French due to the bilingual requirements. I assumed it was a Canadian federal law?
