Bought a toy for summer cruising

Please remove that fuel filter in line above the valve cover. That unit is known to leak and start fires. A non-serviceable all steel Wix or Fram unit matching the line size would be a great replacement.

Do you worry about safety with only a seat belt? I did not live to be 68 to die in a car accident where I would have been protected in a newer vehicle. I feel pretty safe in my 2015 F250. But hey thats just me.

I can't speak for the op, but I don't spend a lot of time dwelling on the possibility. I have watched too many family and friends die a slow and painful death from cancer so that is where my fear lies. I'd rather take the time to enjoy driving a car older than I am, that I inherited from my father when he passed. One of the last things that we really worked on together.

Congratulations!

I would sand the body stakes to the woodgrain and then apply spar varnish. Loose the rad hose dress up braid.

Now is you EGR dashpot disconnected ? !

Next year or two you could put a nice mild 275 HP 327 in there. A platform of many possibilities.

Enjoy!

A 63 had no EGR it possibly even used a draft tube (I know they did in 62) not a PCV.

Love your '63, it's in great shape. The elemental and mechanical driving experience would be fun.

I drove one as a summer student as well. It was few years newer (67 or 68), but 6 cyl and three on the tree. The truck was owned by a business that made bags of ice, and part of my job was to deliver the ice to area campgrounds and corner stores a couple days a week. I had to drive that poor old truck as fast as I could, to get the ice delivered before it melted. That truck was tough, and always ran good despite the hard use.

3 on the tree?
Well you don't have to worry about getting car jacked, unless the jacker is 60 or older.LOL.
I've owned hundreds of cars since the late 70's and I've never had one with a column shift manual. I think the only time I've even seen one was on vaca in Mexico in the 80's on an Aspen or Volare taxi.
