Congrats. Take care of it, and you could still be driving it 20 years from now.

The oldest vehicle I have is a '97 SR5, 4wd, V6, 5-speed, E-locker, factory leather, and moonroof equipped 4Runner. I bought it new, and 19 years later the only repair (not including regular preventive maintenance) has been a few bulbs and a $20.00 hydraulic clutch hose, which took maybe a half-hour of my time to replace. These days it's mostly my snow day and occasional off-road trail exploration vehicle. It still runs and looks pretty much the same as the day I bought it.

Congrats on the 4Runner, nice car, I have always liked them

We get the diesel only Fortuner, based on the Hilux.

My wife has always loved the 4Runners, and we were able to find a new one with the third row seat option. It's the SR5 Premium, so it's fairly nice inside. With 3 miles on it, it had never even been test driven, so it's totally new.

Looking at the manual, I was shocked to see that they were specing 0W-20 for the 4.0L engine, but glad to see the capacity was 6.6 quarts. I'll be letting Toyota do the oil changes on it for a while since it has the 2 yr/25,000 mile maintenance.

The manual has a separate listing for Puerto Rico, where they can use 0W-20, 5W-20, 5W-30, and 10W-30 and still be covered under the warranty. The US listing says you can use 5W-20 if you have to, but the oil must be changed back to 0W-20 at the next OCI.

I'm expecting this thing to run and run (4.0L V6 NO direct injection, 5 speed automatic tranny). It looks like a Storm Trooper to me

I was also glad to see that the 4Runners are still made in Japan and shipped over here. I always think of better quality with made in Japan stuff.

Good looking truck.

My mom has the TRD Pro (same engine) that has the same oil spec as yours, but if it is used for towing, going up a weight is acceptable.

Nice truck! I have about 7-8 Denso oil filters from my 2008 T4R 4.0L if your takes the same filter let me know and I'll sell them to you cheap.

They aren't the same. The 4.0L engine in the 4Runner went to a Cartridge style oil filter, in '10.

Very nice. That thing is a tank...in a good way! It will probably run longer than you want to drive it.

Nice SUV! If they are built as robustly as this 1997 4Runner Limited in my driveway.....good luck trying to kill it. Very basic maintenance is all it needs.
