I bought a juicer yesterday and was wondering what kind of vegetables are good to use in it. I don't like to eat vegetables (except in chili and minestrone soup), so this is one way for me to get more nutrients into me on a regular basis. So far I've found that carrots and cucumbers both make a lot of juice, but spinach does not.

I have been mixing the vegetables with apples, oranges, kiwis and pineapples to help disguise the yucky vegetable taste.

What other good recipes do you guys have that you would recommend for me?

Tomatoes are juicy. So is celery, although that will just intensify the "yucky vegetable taste" so you may not find it particularly appealing.

So far I've been throwing it out, it looks pretty yucky

The problem with celery is that it's 90% water and I don't think it really has many nutrients in it compared to other vegetables. I cannot stand even a hint of tomato juice flavor so I don't think I'll be adding them in there.

We used to do carrot juice and then a bit of apple to flavor and sweeten it a bit.

We stopped juicing due to the fact that much of the nutritional stuff is in the pulp. Nature has naturally reduced the glycemic impact of high sugar fruit juices by adding fiber and tons of trace nutrients. Much of this is in the discards.

Patman - I can not stand most vegetables either so I know exactly your situation. Have you heard of green smoothies, the combining of fruit and leafy green vegetables? I make mine mainly with strawberries and spinach as the primary ingredients and they are quite edible, although sometimes boring, but there are many recipes to choose from.

Google this ladie's books and see what you think. I will tell you you need a pretty decent blender, although not necessarily the ultra-high dollar ones many people recommend.

The first step of my family going pro-vegetarian was to get a juicer. The leafy veggies have very little juice, green peppers are moderately juicy, celery has quite a lot of liquid. Whatever we used, I would disguise the tastes with more fruit. To add a kick, I would use a little bit of ginger.

But I felt that all the good stuff was getting wasted as we threw the pulp into the compost bin. It was too much to use in any dishes.

So now we have a Vitamix blender to make veggie shakes.

I am worried that a lot of the nutrients do end up in the pulp bin, but I'm sure I'm still getting a good portion of them in the juice as well. It's got to be better than having no veggies at all in my diet

Have you watched that Netflix special, "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead"? Dude did a juice fast, nothing but juice, for like some 90 daays if I recall.....and lost a bunch of weight, cut his prescription meds in like half, etc......I don't think I could do that.....but been considering it

Just beware, at first it kind of reads like an advertisement for the Jack Lalane Juicer

Lol.....buddy of mine even went out and got the juicer after watching it, he just juices once or twice a week.....

But yea, growing up, I was always told that most of the nutrients are in the pulp itself......so you're throwing a lot of the nutrients out......BUT....the pulp could make for a fruit/veggie salad perhaps? LOL.....no idea, but a thought

I don't recall him even mentioning the brand of juicer he used in the film? I definitely didn't get the sense it was a big juicer ad.

Juice whatever you can stomach. Try for mostly vegetables and add fruit until you can drink it. Lemon and ginger help with taste.

I usually throw kale, spinach, dandelion greens, swiss chard, celery, carrot, cucumber, cilantro, parsley, ginger, lemon, and apples into my juice. It's ends up being dark green and instantly stains anything it touches. I drink a liter of it every day. It doesn't taste great, but funny enough, in the morning I actually wake up craving it.

Bought a nice juicer a long time ago. The price of fruit (at least around here) made it way too expensive to operate. Much cheaper to buy it off the shelf already liquified.
