PIAA is what I have used for years.

Yes, you can replace the insert of the beam type wiper. Youtube has some videos how to do it.

Ive done it on the OE ones on my wife's VW. I couldnt see a n easy way to do it on the bosches, especially after a few years of UV.

My PIAA wipers replace in a snap and it is never an issue.

No thanks, beams. Just another business model to get people to pay more for stuff.

I agree. It's much easier to replace the inserts on the regular blades. The main problem is it's hard to buy inserts for either regular or beam type now a day.

I use the OEM inserts for the OEM blade holders on both vehicles. OEM inserts last at least as long as aftermarket products for me (well over a year), and they're pretty cheap as well...3 or 4 bucks per side.

One of the main advantages to beam blades that I have seen is that they don't get clogged with ice nearly as easily.

Funny this is brought up. I just put them on two days ago, and we had very heavy rain yesterday. They were so quiet and smooth. Really like them so far. And as others have mentioned; hopefully they wont freeze up during the winter....(I hate when that happens)

Used them for 2+ years on my previous ride, was about to change, but car got totaled. My dad has them for 3 years and they still fine.

and they look nice

I bought a pair of Icons from Amazon last month. $32 in the cart and for some reason an $8.95 discount showed up in the cart, so two out the door for ~$23.

i have bosch icons on my fiance's car and trico neoforms on mine, both beam style blades. with cleaning every now and then they are still working good as new with no streaking. after using beam style blades i will never go back to the cheapies again. they hug the windshield a lot better and like someone else said, you don't have to worry about snow and ice getting caught up inside the blade.

any blade should last a decent amount of time by only using it in the rain at the speed you need (and not full blast), and by being careful not to scratch the rubber by using the wipers on an iced up windshield.

Not specific to the Icons, but I also prefer the beam style for a few reasons. Winter snow and ice seems to be less of a problem with this style, similar to using a winter blade with the boot over the metal on a traditional style. I've also found I scrap the beam style when the blade wears out, where the old style always seems to rust after 1 winter season on me, looks poor, and stops flexing as well as it should.

What works well for one may not for the other.

I have used Bosch Micro Edge Excel in the past and they lasted about 3 years with good cleaning. But, once Bosch eliminated the "Excel" version and only kept the Micro Edge, I switched over to Rain-X Latitued & Repel and they are still great after over 1 year now on all 3 of our vehicles. This coming winter will be the 2nd winter for the Rain-X and we'll see how good they really are. As the temps are now dropping, the R-X are still performing OK with only a bit of streaking. The sup zero temps will be the real test.

With good reviews on all beam style wiper blades, I too am curiour about the Bosch Icon as they could be the next wipers that I try especially since Wal*Mart carries both brands and others as well at really good everyday prices.

I thought I would give some feedback on these after 50K miles and 18 months of use. I think they are the best wiper blades I have ever owned. At this point, I would have had at least 3 new sets of Anco or Trico blades (even replacing the entire arm) and they would not have worked as well as the Bosch.

My guess is they will last until November, giving me 2 years worth of service which is saying something because the Texas heat and rain can wear a set of wiper blades out in short order.

Bottom line--I think they were well worth the cost.

Try them in Winter and you will not be saying that. That said. Most blades here don't last over a year due to salt.

I had them through winter (such that it is in Texas), for us it is the heat and rain that wears them out faster than the winter (we rarely have ice), but the heat degrades them very quickly.

Once...they suck big time in 90 days.

I have used them for 18 months and am still using the same set with no problems. It depends on where you live and what climate conditions that you have.

No clue; all I know is that I have used various types of wiper blades in all the years that I have been driving and these held up the best thus far bar none. YMMV

I have had good luck with the MicroEdge in the past, but IMO the pair of Icon's I had were horrible.

I have a set of midgrade Trico's on my pickup now that are much better than the Icon's that I had on it previously.
