Hey everbody! I haven't been on here in a little while but I have been reading a lot of previous thread so I had a quick question regarding the BD+ filters. All I want to know is, do any of you think it would be safe to run the same filter for two 5k mile OCs? normally I wouldn't think there's any problem with it but my last two changes we're just basic Dino oils (chevron 5w30) from an express shop. I haven't been able to change my own lately because of the apartment complex I live in but now I have a job at another Express lube in town and was able to Change the oil myself, so I put in Valvoline ML Blend (10w30) and a BD+ filter. Should I change filters after 5k miles or keep it on for another 5k with new oil? Before those two Dino changes I was mainly running ML. So I guess I'm just wondering if the Dino oils would have caused the engine to get a little dirty....sorry for the wall of text. Thanks in advance.

Have done similar many times

My take on this is if a car has a standard oci of say 18k, in the case of my Pathfinder, any decent quality filter specified for it must be able to last for 18k.

So if i do 2 9k changes i have the option to leave the filter in situ.

Any car i am running on shorter oci tends to get the filter left in for 2 ocis.

Though if i change oil brand or viscosity i tend not to leave it in situ, just as a precaution, i am likely being paranoid.

Although they have changed the marketing, they used to claim 15,000 miles...

I see no issue with 10,000 and probably no issue with 20,000...

I've got one on its second sump of oil and about 8000ish... well see what it looks like about this time next year maybe....

Thanks guys! I don't see any reason it wouldn't be up to the task, I've just never ran a filter for two OCIs, so II was just a little hesitant but you definitely made up my mind

Based in BD+ 29 gram rated holding capacity and personal experience to 13.5k miles over two oci's linked, no problem with two 5k oci's.

If an engine generates more than 10 grams of metals in 10k miles it's dying.

Though I've seen no research to confirm that, I wouldn't disagree. However I was merely pointing out that the BD+ with that rated holding capacity, more than twice the rated capacity of a P1, would be more than capable of handling any 10k+ fci, over one or two oci's. In other words it is built/designed for extended ocis. FU in the past listed specific grams (iirc ~26-27g) which has also been posted here before, but now says holds "double the dirt of ordinary filter brands". Same idea though, both designed for extended oci's. That was the point.
