Does synthetic oil with large amounts of boron provide better protection of metal to metal contact?
I see that royal purple has a very low amount of boron compared to amsoil.

Different molecules containing boron are used, so without the oil company telling us which form it's using, we don't know what function(s) a given oil's boron is used for. A few years ago Pennzoil said that Ultra's boron was used for yellow metal and seal protection.

I thought boron was the only additive that was meant to aid in oil breakdown against heat?

In the articles and papers I have read its a friction modifier at the surface levels.
Reduces friction.
