What do you all think of Borla exhausts? I got one, I like mine. Who else likes theirs?

I am unsure the diameter of the pipe, but I crawled under my truck today. The one that is right under the rear doors clearly says Borla on it. Then it has some sort of exhaust tip. What do they call that, a resonator?

Oh, and let us all say a big Thank You to the folks at Stup's Auto and Salvage in Fredericksburg, MD. They sent me the following e-mail when I informed them the engine finally fired and ran when put back in time, as I had inquired about going down there with my F150 in this week off I have:

With my experience in the Automotive field, certified tech, masters degree in business, pull the motor in the truck, and replace it, the motor you purchased, I know runs perfect, and most likely had quite a bit fewer miles on it than yours. Older 4.3 motors are problematic, one you start having issues with them, replace it!!! One day they run like nothing is wrong with it, and the next time you go to start it, nothing, wont crank, or will crank, no spark, or no fuel, then you let it sit a few days, by the way, your out of a car for those days, and it decides to work again, like yours. I bet the Midas mechanic didnt do anything to it, the just got LUCKY, they tried it, and WA-LA, it started, mark my word, a few days from now, the weather may change, and your off to somewhere important, and it wont start, and you'll be [censored] that you sent the good motor back, of which by the way, are getting hard to find with the Vortex heads on them, which yours, in the truck, and the one one you bought, both have
You'll be pretty hard pressed to find a replacement for what you paid, I can discount prices on these kind of things, because we are not a small operation, we dont kill the customer with high prices
Your choice, you can send it back, shipping cost is yours, as stated in the listing. I will refund your payment made to me thru Pay Pal, or you can keep it, or re sell it online and make your money back plus shipping, and you will be out nothing
Again, only a honest suggestion
Thanks,
Chris in Ebay Sales

Thanks from the Ebay Store at Stup's Auto Center

Rather glad I did not get that Motorkote.

The old engine will be disassembled so the shop can get it off their pallet, and placed in the bed. Block next to head.

Ya Borla is all that and a bag of chips, you pay for it though. I love the sound of them. A Terminator with Stingers and offroad X pipes with long tubes makes me drool.

No spark, or no fuel? Replace the entire engine! This new one probably has less miles than your old one.

I mean it's not their fault you bought a new engine from them on ebay, but that is absurd advice that won't necessarily fix the problem. Weak fuel pump? Bad ground? Bad ignition key... wouldn't be a lot of fun to replace the engine and find out it's one of those.

And it's Voila, not Wa-la.

My 4v has Mac headers and prochamber. Sounds like a big block at idle and costs half of what borla charges.
Mac for life.

lol, valid points, yes. I test drove it today and found periods of no power, smoke smoking out the road, and I still saw trace signs of water in the oil, including draining the oil and seeing hints of it clear. A huge mess, whatever happened in that last overheat.

I was inclined to agree with them since I suspected either a cracked water jacket, cracked hear, or warped head and or block on the old. Again, guesswork, but compression tests werent too great. Might have been overdue for a replacement.. I will get it back dismantled, so I can do a performance build if all my suspicions about this is wrong, that is wrong were molarchey. 350SBC flat-top pistons and a more agressive cam or crank would do it up very well. Maybe even overbore it, who knows.

My Borla set up may have a hole in the pipe from the headers on the engine to the resonator. The F150 is stock.

I have the Borla Stinger cat back and o/r x pipe on my Mustang and I LOVE it. You certainly do pay for it, though. After a year of battling fitment issues with a Pypes mid muffler system I finally got fed up and shelled out the dough for the Borla. To me it was worth every penny.

Not the first time I've read about fitment issues with pypes products. Their headers are a nightmare.
But they sponsor pinks so somebody is buying them

I've got Borla XR1 mufflers and 4in Borla tips on my GTO.

Love 'em.

I have a Borla y-pipe in my system (BEST bolt-in, OEM replacement one on the market for these cars

), and sometimes wish I had gone for their lower priced, no-plate/non-adjustable, 3"(??) 304 stainless, 4th gen LS1 f body catcon back system.

I have not kept with OP's various topics but do I get a feeling that even though his engine is not working, he is already looking to put high performance exhaust system? Didn't we have somebody like him here before??

I wasn't going to be touching my exhaust. However, upon crawling up under the car today to check out replacing a simple filter, I was able to see I clearly had a Borla system.

Not gonna upgrade, it, no.

Actually, on the flipside, mine has had so much water put through it that it is remarkable that it is still ok!

I have Borla Cat-back systems on two of my vehicles. My 98 chevy K1500 and on my 2004 Monte Carlo SS. I like them. The Monte Carlo system is pretty quiet. I have a Flowmaster cat-back on my 98 K3500 and it's not very loud either.
