It was the best car I ever owned. Onl a few nearly insignificant troubles in the 6 years I owned mine. Great fuel economy, good horsepower, truly excellent handling.

If you are thinking of kids in the next few years, consider the 4 door.

Thanks, Jim - we're not considering kids, ever. so the Coupe will be fine. I know you had to sell yours, it looked great; I just have a thing for the face-lifted headlights in the 2004-2006 330Ci.

wish I could justify getting it now or next yr...although my fav color is black, 25k miles is a cream puff for a 2004 ZHP...

You won't go wrong with this car. Plus they are a real bargain right now. If you wait a little longer (maybe a year) the 2012 3 series is set for a redesign, and used car values will drop even further. The pictures of the next generation 3er are now starting to be selectively released on the internet.

yeah i saw those pics...difficult to say, but i don't have big hopes of them being better looking than the current 3-coupe noses...i am pretty much 99% sure I want to find a used 2004-2006 330 ci. I don't think I'd want to go the "brand new" route yet, adn I've been lurking at bimmerfest.com and most ppl think the E46 interior material is better than current E92 stuff...

I MIGHT miss some of the creature comforts in the current line up, but i really don't wanna spend money on a new/near new car, esp. when I am new to the brand...I have already started my research on the 3-series though...I might have "?"s for you in the future... :)

Fire away with the questions. I've got hundreds of hours of research into this car and I've compiled a fair amount of research. I've also got a few bits and pieces left over that I'd send to a good home for just the cost of shipping.

Well, looks like he moved up ahead of schedule... got himself a nice gift this Christmas... traded the 330ci for a black 2010 M3. :)

wow-nice.
It's ok though- after researching a lot, although i really like the E46 coupes, i have decided that the price difference between a slightly used 07 or 08 E92 coupe (328i) and late E46 coupe is not that big, and decided to go for a E92 328i ...I think I have a better chance of getting a CPO with low mileage and a bit more "amenities" than a E46; and with the BMS powerbox available for 328i coupes now, there's plenty of chances to make the 328i a bit peppier, too...

Yup, as much as I love the E46, they're getting old now, so the upkeep will become more costly and more unpredictable. Same goes for my E39...

yep - that happened to all the "dream cars" i have had in mind in the past: Lexus SC400/300 coupe (stopped in 2001), previous gen. Acura CL, E46 coupe... they all got old and low mile cream puffs became rarer and rarer...

hopefully this time I'll make it, as it looks like BMW is slowly migrating from ultimate driving machine to more Lexus/Merc oriented "Luxuswagen" - the spy pics of the next gen. 3-coupe already looks lamer and less aggressive.

How long have you had the E39 now? i really like the way it looks...will you be wanting a different Bimmer any time soon?

3 years. Just bought a set of winter rims and tires for it.

Thanks. Too many other bills to take care of. Not even thinking of getting another car since this one is paid for and not needing any major work now. I'll keep it as long as the repairs don't overburden my wallet. But if I were to get a new car, it would most likely not be another BMW. Too much hype. Plus, I like to try different things.

Next year it'll be the wife's turn to get a new car... looks like she's after a small SUV from the looks/practicality perspective, but she doesn't fancy the poor fuel economy, so she's also considering a Prius. We'll see what she ends up with...

Hey she should get a pre-2010 Outback - just because I like 'em

How about Audi A3?

Alright - thread revival time - I have decided fully: i am still playing with getting a beater, but if that changes and IF i get a BMW as my next car, it will be the E46 330Ci and NOT the E92 coupe- although the E92 is easier to find, newer etc etc, i just hate the idea that the batteries can only be replaced by the dealer at a $400 cost and there's no dip stick..i just learned that the E46 engines have the oil filter on TOP of the engine which will fully enable me to use an extractor and change my own oil !! lots of E46 owners do this, and like i said, E92 doesn't even have a dip stick...and so much more dealer dependent.

Now, the "?" is...do I go for a ZHP 330Ci (hard to find), or just settle for a non-ZHP 330Ci....

Now that I am out of college and working, it's time to seriosuly think about all this...
