oh I would not neglect paying back student loans - they're well managed, and wife, who's also a pharmacist, makes sure that we still live rather humbly, etc - Before we went to pharmacy school, we both worked full time and we have some savings, too...I will NOT be reckless with $$, and am thinking about a used car only because we're 100% sure we can do it, while still paying the loans off. (having a fin. adviser, and having no kids help a lot)

I have a friend who is a pharmacist (out of school two years ago) in the Minneapolis area and makes about $90k. If your wife is a pharmacist, and you will be one soon, I would seriously question your money management skills (regardless of having a financial advisor or not, and even if your loans together were $2k-3k per month) if you couldn't afford a $20k used car.

It seems like you're on the right track. Good luck with your rotations.

How often do you replace a battery though? Every 5-6 years? That cost (which I'm sure you can cut down in half by letting an indy shop do it) will be nothing in the grand scheme of things (other maintenance items, repairs, insurance, etc.)

and there's no dip stick..i just learned that the E46 engines have the oil filter on TOP of the engine which will fully enable me to use an extractor and change my own oil !!

Yeah, good point. I love that about my 5-er. The C300 is the same way, too, although I haven't changed oil on it yet.

Now, the "?" is...do I go for a ZHP 330Ci (hard to find), or just settle for a non-ZHP 330Ci....

The most important thing is to find a car that has been well maintained (documented), in good shape, relatively low miles. Whether it's ZHP or not should be of secondary priority.

I agree completely, and if I had to choose, I would choose the low mile, better maintained 330Ci and leave the badly maintained ZHP for sure...
I was just wondering whether I should extend my search for a ZHP in good shape, which I know will make the search a lot longer than if i was ok with a regular 330Ci...

also, most ZHPs seem to be owned by enthusiasts who knew what ZHP is and ordered them specifically, so I have hope that most ZHPs out there were maintained with a good amount of TLC...
