Bought this vehicle used with ~112k on it. Last time i changed the oil i took a sample and the way the filter went into the cartridge housing struck me as odd so i looked the procedure up. The filter was supposed to snap into place but that clearly wasnt an option for what i was looking at. Found out that the oil filter by pass valve was missing. I found a youtube video explaining that it can come off the filter cap and get discarded with the oil filter. See attached pic for what this looks like (ignore the glitter in the one pic, not mine). This vehicle has likely been running with little to no oil filtration for a unknown amount of time. The filter looked pretty clean... That said the results are strange since they seem just fine.

Vehicle is the twin turbo 4.4L hot vee v8. This one has a stage 1 tune that claims that its making 560hp. Most of the driving in this sample was longer trips on the highway. 2-3000 miles were with a cargo trailer getting 13-14mpg.

I am trying Mobile 1 0W40 on the next change.

Lots of Mg & Zn. Results are good & right inline with their UA. It pays to peek around while your doing some maintenance.. missing bypass valve.. wow! Nice SUV! I had looked it up & these V8's seem to have plenty of giddy up. 7 posts in 16 years...Interesting.

Man, you are lucky!
That is also known as a cage. It is common for people to take it out with filter if they are rough. It can create all kind of issues with VANOS system etc.
