A possible argument - if all of the "competition" sheared in the same way. In fact, only M1 0W40 does it to that extent.
I guess there's just too much love for M1 here to even consider it in the "con" column for the oil, hmm?
I guess I'm completely mistaken - M1 0W40 is the perfect, faultless oil. There is simply no way that it could be improved-upon - it's competition might as well close up shop for there will never be a better oil ever made.
Ummmmm, no.
Have you ever looked at a UOA? Let's take good old 5w-30 dino oil. Sure theyve gotten better, but there has been a whole lot of shearing going on.
Take DI engines as another one. Fuel dilution effects viscosity.
M1 may shear down, but there is no need to inject criticism where it is irrelevant and unneeded. Lots of oils shear down. The MFRs know that oils may shear down or get bogged down with fuel, etc., so it is part of the design factors to ensure adequate protection.
It has nothing to do with Mobil 1, it just has to do with the thought process when adding a certain amount of safety factor and overdesign into a system to ensure reliability.
