From my Wifes '21 BMW M340ix, her DD. Offspring is taking the car to school for a few weeks so send her off w/ fresh service. The WIX was the "OEM equivalent" from the local O'Reilly's. Appears to be a very good filter, almost identical to OEM.

WIX COO is S Korea, BMW filter COO is Tunisia! Tunisia is a first for me.

WIX is MANN, so it probably just rebadged MANN.

Oddly enough, a close look at the Wix filter on Rock Auto and the Mann filter on FCP Euro, both show the filters being made in Tunisia. I suspect you couldn't go wrong with either brand. Heck, throw a Hengst in there as another option. That's three price points for three very high quality reputed products.

Personally, I'd buy Wix or Mann before I bought a UFI. I was never impressed with the quality of the OEM Ferrari filters I used to buy which were UFI produced.

EDIT: even the Hengst is showing Tunisia as the COO. Maybe it's one of those "one source" items.

In the original post, the Wix is made in South Korea.

I've got a few Microgard filters for my 535d that are made in Korea. I wonder if they are re-badged Wix/Mann. They used to be re-badged Mahle.

I'm just stating what I see with my own two eyes. Oddly enough, the BMW part number that's on the OEM UFI filter doesn't show as being a valid BMW part number (7-826-800 which is a root number for BMW part number 11-42-7-826-800). Even the UFI aftermarket listing doesn't list the "800" part number. The BMW number is 11-42-7-826-799. The discrepancy may be because this filter is a factory installed unit and not a service unit.

I deal with this a lot with Bosch components where the number is one digit off. Typically the genuine part at the dealer has the manufacturer logos on it while the "aftermarket" one number off part does not.

Bcs. WIX basically does not exist any more. It is like Pennzoil rebadged Shell Helix and other Shell brands. WIX is basically MANN, made in MANN-Hummel factories. WIX I was purchasing for Toyota Sienna was coming from Poland, where major MANN factory is.

Of course Wix still exists. I drive by their 2900 Northwest Blvd. facility in Gastonia, NC., at least once a month. Yes, they are now owned by Mann+Hummel but the Wix brand is very much alive. It's just like Purolator, M+H purchased their facilities and still produce under their names.

Mann+Hummel has built a major distribution facility in Gaffney, SC., to consolidate two of their former facilities. I drive by that huge facility every month also. If you'd like I can stop on the side of I-85 and snap some pictures to show you that Wix is alive and well.

Seen some good cartridges (and spin ons) with the S Korea coo. A big key with cartridges is fit inside the housing. As long as Wix a good fit, should work equally well to the BMW, imo.

Brand is. That was my point.
Everything else is MANN-Hummel. They have facilities here, and that was probably one of the reasons for buying them so that M+H does not need to build new facilities.
But, considering the size of M+H, knowledge, know-how, and everything else is M+H.
The same is with Pennzoil. Pennzoil has its distribution centers, etc. but it is Shell. So, the distribution center is basically built by M+H. WIX is a brand that many people know; M+H bought it because. it solves a lot of marketing issues. Buyers know the brand, they re loyal to it. The same is with Pennzoil.
