BMW 325i or Acura TL?

The TSX is considered the 4-door RSX and is also the euro Accord. I really prefer that car over the TL, actually.

I also like the TSX, but you're short-changing it by a couple of levels by comparing it to an RSX. RSX was effectively a nice Civic. TSX is more advanced than our US Accord. I believe this may be the last year of the current TSX, as I've seen concept pix of the 2008 Euro Accord.

Many Integra/RSX enthusiasts consider it to be the equivalent of a 4-door RSX. It's the closest thing to it, per-se. Yes, the TSX is better than our accord but it's identical to the Euro Accord. The RSX was much better than the Civic, especially with the Type-S breaking 200hp.

Update:

The 530i mt is now in the running now that her husband has become extensively involved in the process.

At 6'7'' he may need more room the a 3 series has to offer.
On top of that, kids will be in the mix pretty soon.

Case closed. Nice choice! Yep, kids'll do it. That's why I went for a 9-5 when I had to replace my 900. Surprisingly, I found the 9-5 handled much better anyway! Nothing like a sport sedan that fits three kid seats.

The driving dynamics are much different between the 3- and the 5-series. The 5 being a larger car, feels like it too, every step of the way. It is not as tossable and nimble, so as a result, it does not feel as sporty as the 3-series. It's more of a hwy cruiser, even if equipped with the sport pkg.

That said, the extra room in the cabin definitely has its benefits, both when it comes to long trips as well as extra passengers.

I remember when I was shopping around last year, I was initially considering only the 3-series coupe. Then one day, just for the heck of it, I test drove a 5-series. From that point on, the 3-series was out of the question. I decided that the roads around here are so boring (no twisties), that I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the 3's handling anyway.

IMHO BMW hands down especially if she likes driving a 5MT. An Acura is an appliance.

In the end it should be her choice.

If an Acura is an appliance that would make a BMW an appliance that stays at the dealer for repairs. They both are appliances. They both get you from point a to point b. The rest is babble to make you think you are getting something that justifies the poor reliability record. She sounds like she wants to be in charge so let her. Tell her whichever one she picks is the best choice and go about your business.

She found the 325i on her own and she is the type where she needs to feel like she is the one w/ control over the decison.

I didnt know my sister was in the market for a new car! She wants to drive a manual, not because she enjoys it, but because she doesnt want to be stereotyped as a girl who drives an automatic.

Also when me and my dad were shopping for a car for her (only looking to spend a couple of grand). She basically wanted us to find a car with a leather interior, a sunroof, no dents or scratches, shiny paint, aerodynamic looking (she didnt want a "boxy" car), low miles, and reliable, for about 2 grand. We got her a corolla with 150k miles on it and some dents, power everything, A/C, CD player, and drove fine. She still resents us for it, expecially because she wanted to see it before we bought it, but wasnt willing to drive the distance to see it. Real kicker is it was my dads money that paid for the car! Only thing she ever paid on it was gas, he does all maintainence and everything that brakes. She even has the disrespect to call it a piece of ____ to her friends!

Where is your basis for poor reliability record????? One thing BMW do not do is puke tranny's

There drivelines tend to be quite durable. Consumer Reports puts most at average - above average.

Sounds like a "princess". I hate princesses! My mission in life is quickly becoming to stamp out and destroy princesses.

Not your sister...just princesses in general...you know, "It's all about me! I should get what I want just because I breathe and I'm pretty and the world revolves around me and that anything old or ugly is beneath me and don't even think about asking me to work or do menial labor. I get to shop all day at the mall, spend all my time on clothes, jewelry, shoes, having my hair and nails done, and guess what? Some prince charming or my daddy will pay for it all, because I'm a spoiled, obnoxious, arrogant, vapid, shallow, inconsiderate, disrespectful, lazy, totally clueless and ignorant little b@#ch." Thanks MTV, Oprah, Ricki Lake, Cosmopolitan, Grey's Anatomy, Paris Hilton, Hollywood in general, stupid parents, et al.

Okay, rant over.

Funny thing is, my Dad and I just bought a 97 Corolla for my sister (with her money) while she is up in Canada, to replace the 96 Camry she wrecked that my parents bought her. She has only seen pictures of the car on AutoTrader. Hopefully we won't have a similar scene. I personally like the car, as it has a lot of amenities (keyless entry, cruise, power windows, etc.). It even has a slushbox (ugh), so she can drive while on the phone. But it may not up to her tastes. Hopefully she'll treat it with a decent amount of respect, so we can at least buy it back from her when she decides to get a loan on a Mini Cooper, Jetta, New Beetle, Civic, or whatever the younger members of the opposite sex like to be seen driving in. And yes, she is sort of the princess type, but not nearly as bad as others I've known.

Tell me about it, shes not that bad but the parents do pay for everything. Back when we shared the same car, she refused to pay for gas she used one particular day, because she was "trying to save money".

I can only hope everything turns out alright with that, it's funny thats a perfect list of cars for her, but she doesnt like to be told what a good car would be, she wants to find it on her own. I even know one girl who was looking for a car and our conversation went like this:

Girl: I want a rav4

Me: good choice, perfect girls car

Girl: It is? I dont want it then

www.consumeraffairs.com will give you just a taste of the BMW trannies that have failed and in great numbers. I've seen enough in my shop to know the line about their drivelines being quite durable as false and misleading. The also will leave a shop floor a mess from the oil leaks.
