Suv is the politically correct term for a modern day station wagon. Could you imagine how many soccer moms would get "offended" if you called their vehicles station wagons?

truth be told I cannot think of a single 80s car that looked better than its 1960s ancestor

I'm being a little too broad in my generalizations here, but the "Sport" in SUV is more in keeping with a rural understanding of the term (mainly hunting and fishing) and not an urban meaning (basketball, soccer, tennis, etc) or the concept of a sports car as being fast and agile. "Sport Utility" as in a vehicle that will get you to some remote lake or mountainside as opposed to a court or field, or a vehicle that one would track.
I still remember going to a sports store in a small town in WI and being perplexed by just seeing rods and reels, guns, bait, ammo, and things like that. There was a place kind of like that where I grew up near Chicago, but they still had an aisle with stuff for football, baseball, etc.

Probably less offended than if you called their SUV a minivan!

So what do you call a jeep cherokee trailhawk.

A CUV based on the compact wide platform with

A low range.

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a real transfer case with driveshafts going front and rear and a transfer case shift lever. So did my 1976 Jeep CJ5.

Unsure about Trailhawk.

Depends on what you do for fun. 4 wheeling is fun . Especially in low range. I get a kick out of the cute utes in the ads bombing down a gravel road. That aint 4 wheeling.

Yes, that's equally hideous, but this is also a Ranchero:

Ford butchered it just like GM did with the El Camino, LOL!
