Blue vs White Purolater

ZR2RANDO - If you don’t believe that the filter is dirtier on the incoming side than it is on the exit side, then you don’t have much of a reason to use a filter on your vehicles. Pretty much any filter (or no filter at all) should be good enough for you.

I agree the filter media is dirtier on the input side than on the output side. That was not your claim, your claim was that the oil on the input side is dirtier than the oil on the output side. I think the oil is about the same level of cleanliness.

And I still say the oil on that incoming side of the filter (and the media itself as well) is dirtier than the oil in the center section of the filter.
Sorry if I wasn't clear before.

The oil in the "dirty" side of the filter is significantly dirtier than the clean side. It's not just the stuff trapped in the paper.

I do not believe oil is "significantly" dirtier on the dirty side.

For me, flow ranks higher

Do you know how a positive displacement pump works? An oil filter only affects on oil flow to an engine when the oil pump bypass is open. And when that happens the engine is getting plenty of oil anyway.

The "dirty" side is called the "dirty side for a reason.

Winston,
We believe different things apparently, easy enough to check for yourself.

I do know how positive displacement pumps work. Any additional flow restriction will cause some additional/earlier pump relief flow.

Read up on basic filtration 101 sometime. The "dirty" side is called the "dirty side for a reason. If a filter didn't do any filtration, what would be the purpose of using a filter? It's easy enough to see how air filters, and water filters work...oil filters work too (yes, some filter out smaller particles than others).

The oil coming into the "dirty side" of the filter came out of the clean side of the filter 10 seconds ago. How dirty can the oil get in 10 seconds?
