hello,

i have started auto rx and i have notices like a week into using it i will get blue smoke when my engine is cold.it will last for a few minutes then its fine.

is this auto rx cleaning or a problem

Blue Smoke: Blue smoke is caused by engine oil entering the cylinder area and being burned along with the fuel air mixture. As with the white smoke, just a small drop of oil leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the tailpipe. Blue smoke is more likely in older or higher mileage vehicles than newer cars with fewer miles.

How did the engine oil get inside the cylinder in the first place? The car has many seals, gaskets, and O-rings that are designed to keep the engine oil from entering the cylinder, and one of them has failed. If too much oil leaks into the cylinder and fouls the spark plug, it will cause a misfire (engine miss) in that cylinder, and the spark plug will have to be replaced or cleaned of the oil. Using thicker weight engine oil or an oil additive designed to reduce oil leaks might help reduce the amount of oil leaking into the cylinder.

Black Smoke: Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.

so the blue smoke cant be from auto-rx burning something off. so it is most likely a problem.
it happened when it sat for a few days when it was raining. then i started it up and it was blue smoke for a few minutes.after that it was fine.not even under heavy load going up a steep hill did it do it again.only when it sits.

i was hoping it was auto-rx cleaning

o yeah forgot to mention.
most of my problems started when i used my first bottle of auto Rx and instead of changing the oil at 2500 miles like stated.i had so much stuff come up and did not remember i had auto-Rx in untill almost 6000 miles. so i recently just changed the oil and notice a small leaks and a Lil noisier engine.so instead of doing the rinse phase i figured i left the auto rx with the bad oil in there for so long that the grime and stuff settled again. so i dumped my second bottle of auto-rx in there.

dont know if this helps but thats it. lol

RX does that a lot. You will get smoke, funny noises, oil guage fluctuations and more. Ignore it. NEVER ignore the rinse phase, it's the most important part. The instructions are simple, best to follow them.

You did no harm running it that long. Like sprintman said, it has been documented several places that consumptions and leaks can initially increase while things are getting cleaned out.

Make sure you check all the normal things like PCV Valve and other oil consumption instigators.

I have also noticed that I sometimes get a puff of blue smoke on startup. My truck is in the rinse phase at present and does sit for long periods of time between uses ... It never did this before so I hope that it is due to the cleaning as well and will cease when the cleaning process is completed.

I'd have went ahead with the rinse phase instead of another clean phase but since you've already put it in, in my opinion, I'd run it no more than 3,000 miles, maybe even just 2,000 depending on how it's used, and then do the rinse phase. You may want to ask about this on the ARX forum to see what they recommend.

Luck to ya (us)!

You CANNOT do another clean phase without rinsing it. The oil on the rinse phase w/o ARX will get all the gunk/sludge out of the engine.

Read the instructions!!!!

i did read the instructions.i know how to use it.i just said i had so much going on i left it in there for longer then i should have.so i was asking if i hurt anything by leaving it in that long.never ask if i used it rite.

alittle blue smoke and a sweet fuel smell is also possible in the am especially wet days or damp...when starting your car your fuel runs rich that will cause a tad bet blue smoke and a fuel smell...i learned this from ford because my new raptor does it once in a while and so does my lincoln...no oil smell but really rich fuel smell.....the smoke is light and only last when turning over engine then goes away..in about a sec...i do use redline's si-1 fuel cleaner about 2oz with every trip to gas station....

Nothing bad will happen doing what he did. ARX probably isn't doing anything anyway.

here is a pic from down my oil filler cap.

Doesn't look too good, but hard to tell. Pic is kind of fuzzy. Do you have the macro(?) function? That would clear that pic up.

i think the auto-rx is loosening the stuff up pretty good, cause i wanted to see if the stuff was baked on my engine permanently so i wiped the inside of my engine with my finger and i did not do it that hard and it was hard Little black mini flakes on my finger.i rubbed it in my fingers under warm water and it turned it back to a fine powder then turned the water black.

so i think the auto rx is braking the stuff up pretty good
