Changed the spin-on transmission filter on one of our front end loaders. Typically use Fleetguard products, HF35140 in this case, but was out of them so I called Napa and they crossed that over to a Wix 57723 that they had in stock so I went and picked it up. Installed on a Friday evening and drove the loader out of the shop and parked it but didn't use the loader again until Monday morning, first bucket full of the first load, the o-ring on the filter blew out and dumped 7 gallons of transmission fluid on the ground. Fortunately, had picked up some new Fleetguards that morning, installed one and had no more problems the rest of the day. I believe the filter sees main pressure which is about 235-250 psi.

Did you take picture(s) of the mess to email to Wix ? They should pay for the cost of the 7 gallons of transmission fluid and filter.

Maybe NAPA counter guy fault for a faulty x-ref? Somebody go to wix site quick and see if its (wix pn 57723) rated for that pressure and for hydrauic systems.

Burst pressure rated at 700 PSI and for hydraulic systems.

EDIT: Wix's cross-ref also shows that is the correct cross-ref for that part number.

I took it back and they gave a refund for the cost of the filter. The 57723 crosses to an HF35140 on the Fleetguard site and vice-versa on the Wix site so I'm pretty sure the number was right. I needed a filter wrench to take it back off so it was tight to begin with. It was a filter they had in stock so they must sell them with some regularity so I'm kinda guessing it was a bad filter as well. Makes me kinda uncertain of using another one though.

Side note thanks: There are some oddball Chinese disels that use this thread. Assuming it's a stud on the block ..and that there's a filter relief mechanism in the engine, this one might work for them. Remove the stud and screw on the filter.

We just had the transmission worked on and when it came back it had a Donaldson filter on it. I looked it up and supposedly Donaldson offers a version with and without the stud. I looked the filter number up on Donaldson's site and supposedly, we had the one which did not have the stud so I checked it right away because that would have been different from the HF35140 we had been using but, come to find out, the filter did have the stud after all.
