Bleeding Subaru timing belt tensioner

Can anyone clarify NTN's instructions here?

I feel by Step 11 you're finished. Reinsert pin, done. Fine

Then Step 13 says to attach the tensioner to "the vertical pressing tool." Are they saying to REMOVE THE PIN here and then install? Or install with a pressing tool attached to allow you to pull the pin in-place, maybe?

Step 15 makes no sense in context.

I don't remember doing this several years ago when I did the timing belt in my old 2004 Forester. That car has been fine, so I wonder if this is for specific models or years?

Yeah maybe this is specific to the '10-12 EJ25, which I believe is the EJ253B?
 
Put the tensioner in a vise facing upwards, pull the pin and let the piston expand, leave it for about 30 min then compress the piston slowly with a C clamp, release it again, wait and compress, put the pin back in and install. SOP on the EJ253 although most people do not do it and get away with it.

Audi is working on a timing belt design that uses 14 tensioners that must be bled in a specific order. But some are ratcheting hydraulic/ mechanical which take a different bleeding procedure. And there are eight specialty tools just for bleeding, plus proprietary software.

FAKE NEWS!!! But don't worry, it will be true in a couple years. :D

And somehow uses 14 different chains, ranging in size (circumference) from 25mm to 25,000mm. Configured in such a way that it illustrates a scene from a medieval tapestry from a Bavarian castle. Tres chic!
