Blackstone Labs

I ship my samples to Horizon via UPS. Typically I get delivery confirmation, the sample is processed the following day and I have results that evening or the next day. Another bonus: Horizon fuel dilution is tested by a gas chromatograph and not estimated by viscosity change.

I sent in a sample to Oil Analizers a couple months ago. I have no shipping #'s or account numbers. My bad. I did reach out to them though. Their price is high.
I have an Amazon oil test kit. 30 bucks we'll see.

If you buy the OA kit through Amsoil, it's cheaper than Blackstone. If you buy 3 at a time, you knock off the shipping charge and the "per kit" price goes even lower. No need for an Amsoil membership to do this. Just use the links on the right side of this page:

I pay about $39 per kit shipped when I buy 3 at a time.

I used Blackstone in the past. They were pretty good but have gotten less than stellar lately. Made the switch to Speed Diagnostix and couldn’t be happier. It’s not a super fast turnaround but way quicker than BS and has a personal touch to it.

Just to follow up: I shipped three samples out Friday evening. The lab received them Tuesday morning and I had results by email Wednesday by 12:45 PM.

Has anyone else had issues with long delays, with Blackstone labs. The last couple samples have taken much longer. Currently have a sample that has been with them since 9/9. I called twice, and am just told it is being processed.
Yes - my last sample was there for two weeks before I pinged them via email. This was on 1 March 2024. I received a response the next day. As of 26 October they have another sample of mine and I will ping them again if there are no results in the inbox after two weeks.

Say what you like about Blackstone but I really like the universal averages and their commentary on how your sample results relate to them.

My most recent sample sent to Blackstone arrived on a Saturday two weeks ago. Two after receipt of the sample I pinged them on a Sunday via email for a status update. I had the results in my inbox by Monday afternoon. Perhaps this is just a coincidence but it seems odd that they can have a sample in hand for two weeks and then send the test results in less that 24 hours after a request for status update.

The squeaky wheel getting the grease.

I switched from Blackstone to Horizon/Polaris via Amsoil years ago.

Polaris:

- Is ISO 17025 certified

- Uses all the latest ASTM test methodologies including gas chromatography for fuel dilution

- Includes TBN or TAN test (depending on oil type)

- Is cheaper than Blackstone

- Has never had an issue or a test take longer than 1 week after they received the sample

@Pablo can hook you up.
