Black trim restorer?

I am going to tell you a secret. The very best black trim restorer is sold in 2 parts. The first part can be found at Walmart. No, it is not in the auto aisle.
They keep it well hidden. Head on over to the shoe department. It is labeled "Kiwi Black Leather Dye".
Now....to be clear, this stuff is so good that it will make anything that it touches black. So I would suggest taping around the trim before you apply. Put that on there and let it sit and cure in the sun for a few days. When you are certain that it is good and cured, you are going to need step 2.
Step 2 will be from Amazon. Get a bottle of Ceramic coating for cars. Do not buy the expensive bottles. You should not spend more than 20-25 dollars. Just make sure that it has over 1000 reviews and has a really good rating. 9H is good. 10H is better and 12H is even better than that.
Once you put that over the trim that has been treated with the Kiwi, the trim will look better than the day it came out of the factory. And it will last a long time in this condition.
When it eventually does fade again....depending on how far you let it go, you can just retreat with the Ceramic or do both steps again.
You are dyeing the plastic, good idea.
Speaking of blacks shoes I had a pair that didn't look good so I took a black magic marker and covered the shoes with it.
Then polished them with Kiwi(the best) black polish and they looked almost brand new.

One could use RIT dye too but if that stuff gets anywhere besides the trim it will look shabby. How many of us wash and detail our cars only to have it rain the next day?
I had a '86 Jetta and the thick black plastic around the wheel wells were faded to gray.
I taped them off prepped well and sprayed with flat black paint.
Still looked great when I sold the car a couple years later.

14 years as a member and he makes his first post? Shoe Polish on trim?

Next will be bacon grease but that will have every dog in the neighborhood camping out around your car.
Good man, speak only when you have something to say.

meguiar's back to black, apply it before you wash to all exterior unpainted plastics let it sit for a few minutes and wash your vehicle. all plastics will have a deep black to them. its last about 3 months give or take.
2nd back to black. I apply after the wash, but that’s just a preference.

i apply it liberally before wash because it gets all over the paint. if you apply enough it allows it to soak into the plastics and now wash off when you wash the vehicle. just my experience.

... "Kiwi Black Leather Dye".
Worked wonders on my combat boots. Strip the shoe or boot with shaving cream. Apply 2 to 3 coats of Kiwi dye. Spit shine with black Kiwi polish until your arms fall off. No idea what it will do to plastic trim. :ROFLMAO:
Yes, it is permanent.

Actually following this thread as I need to do the X3 fender flares.
