Being BITOG is the only (that I know of) major oil talk/comparison/consumer testing forum website around, do you think it has any influence on how major oil companies produce their products?

Produce? Nah. Market? Maybe.
I'd say little to none, but its a good place to advertise to car enthusiasts. JMO
You see a lot of members doing used oil analysis on this site. I am sure the oil companies are paying attention to the results. Who knows, a used oil analysis they saw on BITOG made them test their product a bit further to make a change to said tested oil, according to that used oil analysis.

That's like saying not buying your gas from a Mobil station is going to effect EOM's bottom line. Not going to happen.

Having worked fro oil companies for the past 34 years on the exploration and production side. I can assure people on here that one department does not know what an other department in the same building is doing or having any interest in what they are doing.
I would assume that there are virtually no "official" oil company people following this forum. If you are talking about possibly some technically aware engineers working for an oil blender not an "oil company" yes there may be the odd person here reading and posting.
I think they may well have a look at some used oil analysis but these are only a tiny part of the testing regime an oil will go through.
With regards to what effect this will have on any oil blenders business decisions, I would suggest there is no effect at all from postings on this board.

No, absolutely not. BITOG has no influence on production and no influence on marketing. I do agree that oil companies may find some entertainment value.
However, I find value here, of several sorts, and that's good enough for me.

I think that the major influence comes from the demand of the API or EPA or what other groups that the oil companies/blenders have to comply with.

I think G-Oil followed us night and day. They kept on giving us free oil and we kept on hoarding. Now I cannot find their stuff at walmart and am literally down to my last 2 quarts. I think more companies should have their business model, because I need FAR oil!

I thought this might turn out to be a very contributing thread in some sort of way but I guess I was wrong.

There are probably enthusiasts from every major blender on this site, some of whom used to identify themselves (I thinking of Johnny). They particiapte more as members than company representatives, though. If you want to read and post about oil, there really isn't anywhere else to go.
The membership here is too small to have all that much influence. However, if you look at various marque enthusiast sites, you'll find BITOG quoted or linked to on a regular basis.

Well, considering I was able to get a call back from a smaller oil company after sending them an email about some techy questions when I mentioned BITOG, it tells me that there is an awareness out there...that is for sure.
It not so much what we buy, but the influence we have on others. "giving them the facts", if you will. I was suprised as heck when I stopped in a walmart to find a couple of guys buying Quaker State Ultimate Durability beacuse an oil site said it was good for their turbo'd Cruze.
The info is getting out there.....

It increases their profits slightly when an oil becomes a forum darling and herds of forum members "stash" multiple cases. Beyond that there is zero influence.
