Bitdefender stopping programs from loading or slowly

Greetings-
I have been using the Bitdefender antivirus program for about a month. Perhaps its just a coincidence, but programs open very slowly or not at all. BITOG or Google, for example, will not load but if I "X" out and try again, it does instantly. Any ideas?

Prior to Bitdefender, I used McAfee with no problems/issues at all. This machine is Win 11 with 32g ram, about a year old

Discontinue and use the windows defender antivirus, or pay for Eset

My experience with bitdefender was similar to Rand's. I stopped using it a few years ago.

BD always made my computers slow
Webroot is very good

All you need is Windows Defender, these third party antivirus programs cause more problems than they solve.

Bitdefender is a good antivirus but it uses a lot of memory. You need at least 16 GB of ram to use BD without it slowing you down. BD writes a lot of update data to your hard drive/SSD too. The built-in Windows Security/Windows Defender is very good nowadays, its protection is just as good as the paid antivirus. You can add the premium version of Malwarebytes for extra peace of mind. Also you can use the free Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension whether you have Premium Malwarebytes or not. Malwarebytes Premium can slow your browser a little if you only have 8 GB of ram or less.

Yes I saw that just now, sorry. I will still say BD is pretty good but I had slow browsing when I tried BD too. That was with BD Free and also BD Antivirus Plus. Avast and AVG slowed me down too, even with 16 GB of ram. Windows Defender really is all you need.

Disable the firewall and see if everything goes back to normal. We used BD GravityZone for 8 years at work with good results before switching to SentinelOne (imo BD works better than S1 and is more admin friendly.)

Don't be. That's old information. Microsoft has a vested interest in their Windows OS not being a cesspool of Internet cooties and security holes.

Thanks- that worked. Computer is lightning quick now. I turned on Microsoft Windows Defender Firewall instead of leaving the Bitdefender Firewall active. Do you think this is safe to do? No fighting between BD and Windows?

That's good! There shouldn't be any issues with the two coexisting in that way. I looked up why the BD firewall was acting that way, looks like possibly this if you're up to it.

Thanks again. But since its fixed, I'm reluctant to fool around with that quic protocol stuff. LOL
