My car is running nicely, but my mechanic asked me when was the last time I had my 02 sensors changed?

To be honest, I don't think they have EVER been changed! Not in close to 200K!

The car was in service (Ford PI)for 88K with the South Carolina State Police, and the records didn't show they were ever changed. I have put another 100K on it, and I KNOW I haven't had them done.

If it would help a lot in general, as I plan to run her into the dirt, I will do it. I do notice MPG seems less than they used to.

Thanks for any ideas and thoughts...

I've noticed on my cars that replacing the O2 sensors at about the 100K-120K mile point, that the idle is smoother and small throttle tip-in acceleration is also a bit more responsive. It's not dramatic, kind of like the sensation you get when you replace worn out spark plugs.

I think I will have them done... Thanks!

The biggest improvement seen is usually fuel mileage. Old O2 sensors can be slow to switch between rich and lean, thereby affecting the a/f ratio.
