Bigger Oil Filter

I have a 2019 Buick Regal sportback with a 2.0 turbo engine. I have been using a Wix 10290 oil filter. Has anyone found a longer filter that will fit this application. I believe a little extra oil can not hurt and it will allow me to put in a full 5 litre jug and not have .27 litres left over every time. Thanks for your help. Roger

These specs look identical except the 10255 has a much longer can, just be sure you have extra space underhood for the longer can:

Just for fun, does anyone know of a bigger Fram Ultra, XG 12060? It looks like a better filter, but it is very small.

It is my belief that such an endeavor isn't worth the effort.

- Pros: adding a quater of a liter will achieve exactly what?
Are you going to extend the OCI by an approximately equal amount relative to the volume increase? (probably not)
Are you able to prove that the oil volume increase would somehow make an engine "cooler", when the engine temp is goverened by a liquid cooled system that uses a thermostat to moderate temps? (most certinaly not)
Are you able to prove that the oil volume increase will somehow reduce wear by making the sump X% cleaner by volume? (seriously doubt it; there's no way that such a small volume shift would be discerned in any meaningful way)

- Cons: adding a quater of a liter will risk exactly what?
Possible warranty denial, in the very unlikely event that a filter-related failure occurs? (this is a real risk; admittedly remote because filter-related failures resulting in engine damage are very rare)

You can go ahead and add the oil to the sump, but you don't need to hide that volume in a larger filter; that's just a silly way to try and justify the ease of dumping the bottle in.

I think you are over thinking this. I feel better with a bigger filter, that is enough for me.

I may be wrong but I think it helps drop the dp across the filter by having larger internal volume. With the way new vehicles rev when first started, it might help. I ran the XG 10575 on my 08’ Silverado 4.8l until they changed the bypass to 22 psi. Been using the Wix 57045 since.

Yes, a larger oil filter (with the same media design) with more media area would have less delta-p and more holding capacity. The slightly higher RPM at cold start probably wouldn't put an oil filter into bypass (especially a filter with a 22 PSI bypass valve) unless the start-up was way below zero and the appropriate "W" rating of the oil wasn't being used. It's always a good idea to keep engine revs low until the oil warms up some, regardless of the oil and filter being used.

I can respect the fact that you're willing to admit this isn't about facts, but feelings; I admire your candor and honesty.
You should certainly do what you feel comfortable with in regard to your vehicle.

What is the bypass on the Wix and why is it better. I thought the media was better in the XG. We are most likely splitting hairs, but that is why we are on "BOB".
