Changed oil in my moms 02 Mazda 626 last night with the 2.0 4cyl. I usually take care of getting the oil and filter for her, but this time around she wanted to order from some place online to save a few bucks. Anyways, she got a Bosch 3300 oil filter, but it was twice the size of what I usually put on. I looked it up on Autozones website, and the car does call for a Bosch 3323, which is what I would have put on, but this one had the same specs, other than the fact that it was twice as long. Diameter, threads, and pressure relief (14-18psi) specs were all the same. Does anyone else use this size filter? It seems to be ok with it on there, and now I can atleast get 4qts. of oil in the car, instead of the pitiful 3.5 that the manual calls for. Oil capacity and filter size are a concern for me cause mom doesn't make a habbit of paying attention to the oil change stickers I put on her windshield, and its not uncommon for her to go 1,000-2,000miles over her scheduled OCI.

Hi there, the 3300 cross-references to a Fram PH6607. This is a 20mm thread filter that can cross-reference to a Fram PH3593A or a Fram PH7317. If you have the room, they can be interchanged without problem. For example, my car calls for the 3593A but I'm using a 7317 which is recommended typically for newer Honda vehicles. There used to be an even larger filter by Purolator (don't know the Fram/Wix number, sorry) called the 24459 (IIRC) but I believe it's been discontinued. It was about twice the size of the regular Fram 3593A/Purolator L14459/Wix 1334. Using the 3323 which is the 7317 size should cause no problem at all. I say go for it. You could also use a 3312 if you so desired.
Also, I looked downstairs at my filters and I compared the 3300 to the 7317 size that the 3323 cross-references to and the 3300 is actually slightly smaller. Are you comparing the 3300 to the Fram PH6607 size filter? Because I know the Bosch 3300 is slightly taller than that filter which I think is the recommended filter for your car.

you know what, I think I got the numbers mixed up. sorry about that. the 3300 is what hers actually calls for, and the 3323 was the bigger one that she got. she had gotten the wrong oil for the car as well, I went next door to Autozone and took advantage of their Valvoline Maxlife sale and got a Fram TG6607 with it and thats what it called for.
The 3323 would've worked fine, but as will the TG6607. If I had known you needed the 6607 I could've send you two unused Fram Tough Guard 6607's and a Bosch 3300 I bought for a car I used to maintain. Take care
