BG Products Trans Fluid

Sat morning we're off to have our 8 speed trans drain and filled with the BG products low viscosity ATF fluid. This will make the third drain and file since starting use of the fluid. The issue we ran into is we're not able to locate shops willing to handle or use these BG products. Basically all thats needed is to drain the fluid, open the side plug and refill the fluid till it starts dripping out the side plug hole. The trans filter can not be replaced plus Ford says to service every 100K miles which we've not done..

Been impressed with the performance of this fluid and the van will let us know when it's time to change the fluid again with a few shuidderings of the gears. this typically happened at or about the 30K mile mark. We've heard nothing but bad things about the Transit transmissions.. but after using the BG products, the shuddering trans issues has all but disappeared. Wait 100K like ford says? Nope we'll do this every 30K with the BG products.

Just the opposite in my location. Many dealers and shops use BG products. In fact, dealers do BG transmission fluid changes even when the vehicle is still under warranty.

I wonder if any of the other dozen + universal fluids would do equally well in your Transit. I guess that's one thing I've learned at BITOG - correct tranny fluid is important, but OEM fluid seems not as important as the vehicle manufacturer asserts (most, not all times).

Oddly back when this all started I approached several Ford dealership and ask them to service my transmission due to the shuddering issues. 3 out of 6 dealerships decline to offer any service while the other 3 said for me to return at 100K miles for the services. The other issue I was facing is that when one uses the BG product service station location tool.. stations that claim they use the BG products did not. For instance Volvo dealership has BG Products posted at their service bays.. but when asked if they would service our transmission, they said all they do is sell the BG products and not service the cars with it. Another shop said they service with the BG products but when they did the service they added extra charger which we didn't approve.. So now when I search for shop that can do this, I ask can you drain and fill my transmission with my own fluid. I found three shops that will do this using a large syringe and that's all I've ever asked any shop to do. So to reply to you comment, you're lucky cause none of the shop or dealership in our area will do this service till 100K or decline to use the BG products.

At 10,000 miles I wanted to have a drain and fill for our 2017 Explorer w/6F35 transmission to get out some of the break-in ATF and do another drain and fill 10,000 miles later. Four ford dealers reasonably close to me, including the purchasing dealer, refused to do the drain and fill. However they would be happy to do a complete BG Flush for $300+ at the time . I did the drain and fills myself, it was actually easy to do. Unfortunately this 6F35 had the new "improved" torque convertor that in many cases was doomed to fail no matter how often you did drain and fills. After the first two 10,000 mi D&F I did D&F ~every 23,000 mi. I got to 99,300 miles before the torque convertor failed.

The only reason to use BG products is for their added warranty.
You are paying for that warranty and one has to be careful not to fall into the sales pitch for additional services. I started using the local MOPAR BG transmission service about 8 years ago when my wife's health issues affected my DIY activities, so I just keep using it. I'm fortunate to have a close friend MOPAR dealer mechanic that cuts me a break on costs ( I tip him generously when he does occasion work for me at his home workshop - he's a gem in the rough).

Back when I was a tech I really liked the BG trans fluid exchange machine itself. Exchanges all the fluid. As far as the additives, fluids, flushes, I was always leery.
They have some good hardware I kinda want one. Other than their EPR flush and 44K which in my experience with my own vehicles, family and friends; all have had a positive experience. I find their MOA and other additives iffy, they seemed to be pushed around here by local dealerships.

I work at a ford dealer, and BG products are officially used at Ford dealers, and other dealers too I’m sure. Even some motorcraft branded chemicals like the PM-44A, which is called Motorcraft 44k fuel system cleaner is made by BG and is the exact same thing as the BG44k. Ford dealers have BG fluid exchange machines for literally everything too. BG and Ford motorcraft is an official partner.

BG makes literally everything for all systems on a car that needs oil/fluid. One thing I really like is they make flush chemicals that actually work, not like some of the auto parts store generic flush products that don’t actually clean anything.

BG makes excellent chemicals and Automotive products, and I would not hesitate to use it in literally all vehicles. BG makes commercial grade chemicals and products (not consumer grade), which is why you don’t see them at your local auto parts stores. BG chemicals actually work and is very effective.

I have mentioned my BiL doing 400k with a Chevy 1500 5.3 4L60e
Tires, brakes, and wheel bearings …
Mobil Super 5W30 and BG transmission fluid swaps …

Got our Tahoe at a high volume dealership - just went to their website and they have a full suite of BG services - prices seem reasonable on the ATF swap.
