BG EPR - New Oil Filthy after Running EPR

How many of today's engines have Mg blocks? I've never heard of that save for a few Porsche ones years and years ago.

The coating problem with those engines was related to the same issues with aluminum blocks with Nikasil.
The individual who gave me this information experienced it on a handful of BMW N52 engines. I have not personally verified the validity of his statement, but supposedly, BG EPR contains both Polyisobuteneamine and Polyetheramine. The synergistic effect of these ingredients will strip certain engine coatings and paints. This resulted in the coating being stripped off of the crankcase components on several N52 engines and remnants of the coating ended up in the oil filter.

I have a 2010 Honda CR-V. At 182K miles it started consuming about 1 quart of oil every 500 miles. Mechanic used EPR/MOA/44K at the 184K mile oil change and recommended a 4K OCI. Remarkably, after a few thousand miles the oil consumption issue almost completely disappeared. I used the three BG products at the 188K mile oil change and again yesterday at 192K miles. I ran the EPR in the old oil at 1200rpm for 12 minutes, drained the old oil, and replaced the filter.

After refilling with fresh oil and checking the dipstick, I noticed that the new oil seemed dirty so I decided to drain it. I dipped a towel in the oil and was surprised how dirty it was (see photo) plus the EPR smell was still very strong. I only ran the engine for few minutes and did not put the MOA in yet.

After 3 rounds of EPR and MOA over 10,000 miles, I'm surprised that there's still this much dirt in the engine. Wondering how I should move forward in terms of OCI and whether to continue with the EPR/MOA? Any input would be appreciated.

PS -- I've been using SuperTech 0w20 Full Synthetic High Mileage.

It sounds like the EPR is working, I would go ahead and drain your oil, get some cheap Super Tech 5W-30 or 10W-30 and do the EPR thing again and run it for 20 minutes, then drain the oil and use Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W-20 or better yet 5W-30

Stay away from Super Tech, VRP is your best bet now.

Why the fresh oil with EPR, because whether it works better or not you will be able to see what the EPR is doing.

Just to be on the safe side, ( even though Toyota wasn't mentioned ), I ordered and will install an aluminum valve cover on my 03' 2AZ-FE Toyota engine. Magnesium valve cover....,,that is corroding anyway. Allegedly installed by Toyota to knock off weight. Really ?!?! What, a lousy pound ? Once my back recovers, I can start wrenching again. A few more weeks. The car mostly sits in a garage for me to use to go to doctor appointments. It gets rotated with the 13' CRV my wife uses for work ( 6 months each car ) to spread out the mileage a bit. I'm retired. I do believe there is something in that EPR 109 to cause this type of trouble. It does work very well. The 13' CRV K24 engine was burning oil. Stuck /coked rings. Cleared it up in just 3 OCI's. Works well.

Please do not make silly decisions based on developments that do not even apply to your application...

Too late. Valve cover is here and waiting. Glad to hear it doesn't apply to my application, gives me more time to recover from surgery. The Mag cover is literally just corroding away anyway. Just a matter of time before it starts leaking. The cover is acting like an anode on a boat ! LOL :) Never seen anything like it in my life. Time for it to go bye bye. Many thanks Critic :)
