BFG ATKO2 Reviews

I'm on my second set on my 4runner. Very quiet when brand new but will get loud once they are worn past 1/2 tread depth. They can be a pain to balance at times. On both sets that I've had, there is one tire that takes a lot more weight to balance than the others. Good in most all conditions, but not amazing either. BFG has just released an updated version, the AT/KO3. Not much difference other than the tread pattern has been updates.

I’m not bothered about going fast, it’s a Land Rover Discovery 4 (LR4 to you lot) with a 3.0 diesel engine so it’s not built for speed, be it straight line or cornering. I’m after a tyre that I can put on that will, as far as possible, allow me to do some off-roading and still drive reasonably well on tarmac at 70mph.
I would check Bridgestone Dualer or if Michelin has it.
Continental has some AT tires in UK too. They will have good wet performance.

I think my KO2 are better in rain than my previous Hankook ATM tires. I like the KO2 in all but mud. The suck in mud.

I run them at 32psi on my F150, and 28psi on my Wrangler. Both are 35”ish tires.

I had hankook ATMs as original equipment on my ford. They were quiet and handled really well in the dry; but they were no great in the wet.

Same - they literally hydroplaned - replaced with Goodyear GT’s that were all around better - other than slightly more noise …

You are looking at a bit of a trade off. In my personal experience, so long as you drive sensibly, you will not have issues with these in the rain. They won't provide the traction of an all-highway tire, but you certainly won't be sliding all over the place and losing control like some reviews make it seem.

Another thing to consider is, being in Britain, your roads are built to deal with constant rain; unlike the roads where I am that are built to deal with excessive heat.

In my neck of the woods, sand essentially covers everything and when it rains, the roads have much less traction than they would be with just rain alone. That, combined with the fact that the roads are not essentially designed for heavy rainfall like we had last year throughout winter, make for some difficult driving conditions. With that said, even under those conditions, these tires have done me well on my Pajero.

I've been looking all over for KO3's and I've been unable to find them.

I wrote a review of them back in January. The only thing that has changed from them until now is they are staying balanced much better than they were previously. Not sure if it is the tire, the tire store (I started going to a different Discount Tire store), or a combination of both, but with road force balancing they are livable. I had planned to pull them and replace with a different tire, but I am going to let them wear out (unless the handling this winter is very bad).

I have no experience with the BFG ATKO2 tire. But I have a set of Continental Terrain Contact A/T on my wife's Outback, and have been very pleased with them. Good highway behavior. Brake well, quiet. Good in rain. Since I run dedicated winter tires, I have limited snow experience with the Terrain Contact A/T, but they behaved well in the few snow storms that they have been in.

I’m looking at all terrain tyres and the BFG ATKO2 get some good reviews but also gets some poor rain handling reviews too.
Does anyone have direct experience with the latest version of this tyre?

Thanks
Yep. Not good in rain (slippery, but not prone to hydroplaning) and GREAT in every other way. I've got 33" and 35" versions on my Jeeps. Both C load rating and both perform exactly the same. I've run them in every condition, off road and off, snow, dry, rain, highway and city.

I’m listening to everyone’s experience so thanks.

Has anybody used Yokohama Geolandar X-AT G016 before?
I know a few people who have them and they are on a couple of our company trucks. Very quiet when new and seem to wear well with the miles going on them, which means they have a firmer compound. Can't give any feedback on wet and or frozen weather conditions though as I have no personal experience with them yet. They are a pain to get the bead to seat when mounting. They seem to need almost full max pressure (70-80 psi) for the bead to fully set, while almost all other AT tires will usually fully seat at half that pressure. The good thing about that is you can air them way down and not worry about popping a bead as much as other tires.

They have just been released and probably only available in the most common sizes. They probably won't be widely available for at least a few months
They're available in 2 sizes currently, and those 2 sizes are OEM for certain new Chevy trucks.
