My '97 Aerostar AWD 4.0L with 220,000 miles now runs like new!
I have owned this van since it was purchased new in '97. I have always used a quality synthetic oil and name brand filter..even a few from the "orange wall of doom" before I found this board.
I usually changed oil around 5-6,000 mile intervals, adding in a bottle of "add anytime" Rislone about 750 miles before the oil change. I also used Techron every other change or so for the fuel system, added in the last fill-up before the oil change The last 10,000 miles or so I have been using Lucas UCL in the fuel system on a regular basis. The 5 speed auto received 20,000 mile fluid exchange and filters using AAmco semi synsthetic Mercon V.
200,000 miles with zero problems and no measurable use of oil between changes. It started up and ran well in all conditions.
Because of what I have read on this boatd, about 5,000 miles ago I did an Autorx treatment and flush on the engine, transmission and power steering. I then started using Fuel Power and Lube Control per the instructions.
Now the payoff...The van runs even better!
Increase in smoothness, performance and 2 mpg increase in gas mileage! I was happy with the way the van was running before these treatments..and it did run well....now it just runs better....probably close to " new".
