Better not try this over here

yeah we are not a true REPUBLIC anymore.

"Onto the REPUBLIC for which it stands, one nation, under god ---"

our rights are being taken away and very few of us are doing anything about it.. keep taking a backseat and your grandkids will not be living in an "America" anymore.. so i would advice to totally research who you vote for and please start researching your local senators and representatives bc CHANGE DOES START THERE!... vote for a Libertarian! atleast they know what the constitution actually stands for. ill bet a pretty penny most politicians do not know over 1/3rd of it.. they are merely supporting their own personal agenda

From what I've heard, a "healthy" waist size is 35" or less for men and (I think) 33" or less for women in this country (measured at the narrowest point). Japanese people are smaller, though, and there's probably some wiggle room in that 33.5" number they've instituted over there. So if they were to do something like that here, you'd probably see about 35" for women and 38" for men.

I'm certainly not saying it should be mandated, but it is something to shoot for individually. That said, whoever said that this could very well happen with socialized medicine in this country is dead on. Maybe you wouldn't see it written that explicitly, but watch them start to deny benefits to people with a long-term, poorly controlled weight problem. They're already doing that to smokers. Fat people is not much of stretch. (Keep in mind, I'm "obese" by the medical definition (BMI > 30). Although, to look at me, you'd be hard pressed to tell. A "fit" 240 is a lot different than a blubbery 240, but the law almost certainly would never acknowledge that).

What I would favor is re-writing the farm and agriculture laws so that people would be encouraged to eat whole foods, produce, leaner meats, etc. and less processed starches, sugars, corn syrups and other highly refined stuff that goes straight to your waistline instead of providing what your body really needs.

Personally, in my family, more and more of our grocery shopping lately is in the produce section and less and less is in the pre-made/boxed sections. Also fewer ingredients=better.

It doesn't matter. They would just reindex the weight criteria to exclude you anyway. Just like decades long norms for bp and blood sugar are now reduced to include more of the population into "treatment". I'm supposed to be 185lb.

Karim Abdul-Jabbar. ... 7 ft 2 in (2.18 m), Weight: 225 lb (102 kg) ...

Good person

Shaquille O'Neal

Height: 7-1 / 2,16
Weight: 325 lbs. / 147,4 kg.

Lazy sack of xcraph in need of treatment.

Gary, you must not follow the NBA closely.

He didn't earn his nickname Snaq O'Meal by accident.

Yes, he's a big man ..but it's hard to say that he's unhealthy. Surely being a heavier "superman" (aren't they all, mostly?) he's going to suffer sooner or later. My point was, he'll never EVER be able to look like Jabbar who would be considered the more favorable of the two in the health community's eyes. He would die from starvation before ever meeting their criteria for healthy.

If you're more like Woody Allen ..you're a "better" human
If you're more like (even) John Wayne, you're a lesser human.

I got what you were sayin.

I was just offering an interesting tidbit about Shaq. FYI, he might not be the best example for future reference. He's the brunt of a lot of fat jokes. He's been criticized his entire career for being lazy and showing up at training camp at least 50lbs overweight. This is one of the reasons why the Lakers wouldn't renew his contract and shipped him to Miami.

Another interesting tidbit: Shaq's monthly expenses are in the neighborhood of $900,000 (yeah, you read that right!). Conspicuously absent were expenditures for a personal training

Willis Reed? (are you old enough?).

Yes ...Shaq is what I'd probably end up looking like if I was in his place. I'd probably be just as broke too.

Nope have no recollection of Willis Reed. Heard he was good though.

Shaq's not broke. He has a part time jobs as a rapper, product whore (the man gets a lot of commercial gigs), actor, and sheriff.
Yep, the man is a certified law enforcement officer. Does it for free though, so I shouldn't count it as a "job." A real humanitarian, that Shaq.

The funniest part was when he told his coach to go take a hike because he had to study for the law enforcement exam. Blowing off your day job for your hobby

So you are in favor of mandating the American diet?

You must be kidding.

I'm implying that we should reconsider the whole idea of farm subsidies and what crops (if any) they're applied to. The government already has a great deal of control over all of our diets because of existing farm subsidies. Corn (starch), wheat (usually processed into almost pure starch) and potatoes (starch) are FAR too prevalent in the American diet and it all goes straight to your waist. All I'm saying is move some of the money from those over to other stuff that's better for you and watch waistlines around the country decrease in size almost as if by magic.

The last thing I want is more government control of my life, especially in sneaky ways like farm subsidies.

Overweight people should only be allowed to eat beets until they learn to behave. Let the skinny chics eat the cheeseburgers.

The problem is when fat people have health issues such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease and sleep apnea folks like myself who take an active interest in their health and work diligently to keep ourselves in shape still have to pay the bill of the obese through our health care system. Forcing lardo's to face their problem and do something about it reduces the amount of money they remove from my wallet.

Or force them to simply pay for their irresponsibility out of their own pocket.
