Can I put this thread here? Fishing poles and guns go good together don't they?

You guys got any tips on straightening out mono filament line? I heard some guys set the spool down in a boiling pan of water before they install the new line on their reel; does that work?

Ahh... I really think it just takes time on the reel spool. Also when pulling new line in... Add pressure with your fingers and don't go really fast. Berkeley used to sell a good mono that did not have as much trouble. It spooled better and did lose its original shape from the factory spool faster.

In Arizona I would straighten the line out with the help of striped bass, deep sea guys use marlin...

I don't know so I hope someone comes with the answer.

I usually just use it a few times and let itself break in.

I know they make "line conditioner's" that are highly rated never seem to have any luck with them tho.

Would not use boiling water, but soaking the line in water sure does work.

A guy sold "line detwisters" a while back. They were small strips of metal 3/8" wide by 2 1/2" long. They were twisted and you were supposed to cast them into the water and the prop action on their return would effect a twist.
You got two of them. One for each direction. How much to pay out (after you determine which direction your line was twisted in) could only come with experience.

I would let out all the line as it was dragged behind the boat, and slowly reel it in as the boat was at a fast idle. Always seemed to work well for us.

300 lb shark will straighten it just fine.....I have a whole spool of it swimming around the Key West to Cuba area.

The only comment that I can make is that I have noticed that some lines appear to have more 'memory' for want of a better word.
