having a coal stove + one chimney i shut off my oil furnace when it gets cold enough to not get cooked out of my basement kitchen where the Harman MK I resides. i installed a stiebel eltron tankless water heater years ago + its excellent for me living alone mostly. i looked up the recommendation for my area + after talking to a rep i opted for an electronically controlled DHC-E 10 that requires a 50A breaker 220V, its 8" W X 14" H + 3.5" deep excluding connections to it. being electronically controlled i feed it off my hot water from the near oil furnace + it only runs when needed, but since furnace is off now it does it all, but in moderate temps 40F + up + furnace runs with coal off it gets preheated water + a red light activates when in use + if drawing water too fast to keep up it blinks. my pipe runs are close which helps but now with the control @ 40C its made in germany 111F it heats my bath water that i can just get in, big old claw foot cast iron tub sucks heat off at first. you can set the temp on the dial on the face of unit but as noted a blinking light requires a slower draw to keep up. they have several bigger units as well + remember no mater the electric requirement what matters what is used at the same time. i only have 100A box but living alone it works even with 60A breaker for my garage as i am the only one using power. they have gas units as well i believe. install is pretty easy if your handy, water in + out + electric or gas feed. these units could be a "helper" or do it all depending on size. i am in PA + fairly cold input water here.
