Of course it is.

The best syn oil is whatever Grp. III is on sale at the moment. It's all about the same, so shopping on price makes more sense.

Now oils like Amsoil that are the real-deal syn and are proven to go super-long changes are a different breed of cat.

Oops there goes another non-Mobil 1 thread
(chorus repeats)

But hes got high hopes, hes got high hopes
Hes got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your gettin low
stead of lettin go
Just remember that rant
Oops there goes another non-Mobil 1 thread...

Maybe that was the case in Canada, but here in USA you get no payment, and no correction. You do get a 5% extension on your warranty mileage wise. I would have preferred the correction.

By checking out UOAs, I have come to conclude for 5w30, PP is GREAT value for money. They do the job well, and priced really well.

I'd never even considered PP until I joined this site.

Nothing against M1 (ie. their 15w50 looks real good), but I really see no reason to choose M1 5w30 over PP 5w30, especially since PP is cheaper.

I'm all ears though, if anyone has info on how M1 5w30 performs better in any aspect. (The regular formula, not the EP)

I'm surprised ST didn't make it on the list. This was a best bang for the buck thread, right?

Personally, I like Mobil 1 as well, but I wouldn't consider it a best bang for the money. Neither would Amsoil XL. I didn't think too highly of any of the others listed.

I think PP, especially with the deal they're running with the mail in rebate, is just an insanely great deal.

Quite frankly, I get really jealous of people down in States, here in Canada you won't event get a lowest grade 4.4L synthetic oil for $24.99, let alone a free filter with it!!!

We do not have Edge, nor we have all the grades available as in States for EP, the regular price for a 5L jug of Platinum/SynPower/HorsePower is about $33.00 to $36.00 on sale may be $29.99, that's it!

I have never seen it any cheaper than that, a 1L bottle of Pennzoil sells for $7.99 to $9.99, and I simply do not beleive that Walmart, Canadian Tire and Napa home brand synthetic oils have half as good additive packages as national/international brands do, hence I did not listed them here.

Can you beleive it costs us $13 dollars a quart for Amsoil and $14-$17 a quart for Red Line???

Hence, my friends, I would like to know as per you which Oil would meet the best criteria as stated above and WHY?

Thanks :)

Pay less, get more.

HDEO's, especially RTS 5W-40. More additives, longer life, cheaper price.

My favorite bang for the buck.

Even conventional HDEO's are sooo cheap it's crazy for what you get out of them.

i know what you mean Jaymus :)! Although using such an oil in small to medium (except european) size engines will cause lot of sluggishness, using such an oil through out the year would not be feasible as it gets really cold up here...really cold!

I'll say it. WallyWorld SuperTech Full syn. Have done a couple of UOA's ayt 8-10 K miles on 2 different cars with great results.

I put it in 4 cars for the past couple of years. I haven't done a UOA lately. Need to do one.

You beat me by 5 minutes

Supertech Synthetic

Kendall full Synthetic $4.50~ /qt. 6,000 to 10,000 oci

You need to look a little harder, in the past three months I have picked up 4.4l jugs PP full synthetic at Walmart for $19.99. Q-Horsepower on sale this week at Canadian Tire for $24.99 again 4.4l jug. Also if you live by an Esso distributer you can pick up 12 one litre cases of XD-3 0w-30 or 0w-40 for where I am for $68.20 a case less than $6/litre. Still much more than our friends to the south but deals do come along you just have to keep looking...........

Your in canada.... have you considered Esso XD3 0W-30 ? Around $6/litre...
Gets amazing reviews and UOA results

It's not as good as it used to be... Still a very good oil, but weakened a bit from a few years ago... IMO I would use Pennzoil Platinum instead.

I like Mobil 1 0W-30 green. I use it in my 2004 Chevy Malibu (155k), my 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 2WD and my wife's 199 Olds 88. I change at 10K in the Malibu and once a year in the truck. The Olds just switched over and will get a change in spring. Walmart has an everyday price of $22/5qt jug.

The Malibu has had nothing but M1 since I bought it with 14k on it. I average 38.5 mpg summer and about 32 mpg in the harsh Wisconsin winters with the 3.5L V-6.

My previous work car was a 1999 Chevy Prizm (Toyota Corolla twin) that had no problem getting to 250k.

I can't ask for anything more, can I?

I think Synpower, PP and M1 in that order are the best 3. Some grades of M1 i prefer over the other brands. Depends on the grade of oil.

I'm using Valvoline right now and Redline.

If you are lucky enough to have a car that can use them:

1. German Castrol(GC) 0w-30 - The best, cheapest Group IV and V synthetic made. With chemical analysis proving the Pao/Ester content. It's a steal for what it is.

2. Mobil 1 0w-40- Practically ties with GC. For some cars it's even the better choice.

3. Mobil 5w-40(whichever Doug Hillary uses - might tie for 2nd with 0w-40)

4. Mobil 0w-30/0w-20/ and their EP Formulas

5. PP, Valvoline synpower, Kendal Full Synthetic, all remaining Group III synthetics and regular Mobil 1

The choices are all price based. Everything is available on sale for $5.00 per Quart or less in the United States. I understand things are more expensive in Canada.
