I took a wiff of Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 whilst changing my oil a few weeks ago. It was very mild, like honey with a bit of spice. Maybe cinnamon.

You've just discovered the way to get more women to change their oil. They're more into the aromatherapy thing than men. Oil companies can start marketing oil by smell instead of viscosity.

I haven't smelled that many oils (hate to crack the tops until ready to use them), but definitely regular Maxlife smells great! Castrol Startup does not have much of an aroma to speak of. Redline smells nasty. Pennzoil Platinum is weak. Durablend is weak, somewhat like Maxlife though. Synpower Oil Treatment is nice, but Maxlife Engine Protector smells great. Well, so far Maxlife is the winner in my book.

You can give the cap a twist to loosen it slightly without breaking the seal, squeeze the bottle gently and take a wiff.
I should correct my previous statement about moly rich oils smelling bad by saying that Havoline is the one exception. It is moly rich and smells pretty good too. Not as good as valvoline, but better than most of the rest.
I was in walmart last night and gave a few the wiff test. I sure hope the security cameras didn't catch me.
I should add that the Maxlife I sniffed is SL, which did not list having moly.

Amsoil XL 5W-20 smells like some kind of food cooking, maybe like corn tortillas with a pot of Hungarian Goulash and some corn on the cob with a Mexican omelette.
The most interesting is Amsoil Saber 2 stroke oil. Like being in a packed candy shop with a group Chinese and French working girls, all with different perfumes.

Are some motor oils actually perfumed? I would think the aromas are a result of each oils components.
Ford's was/is just as bad, especially once it is used/sheared down. A strong rival to the worst/cheesiest toe jam. I used to wear a paint breather when changing it on my old '90 T Bird SC!
After shutting down the lawn mower to empty the bag, I like the way Mobil 1 smells on restart.
The absolutely worst smelling oil/lube is Redline MTL. Regular old hypoid gear oil runs a close second.

Valvoline All-Climate Durablend, and Maxlife all have the characteristic Valvoiline smell. Over the years it has come to represent saturday afternoons crawling under my motors getting a little dirty, pouring fresh oil in, all the things a young man could ask for. Sunshine, mountain dew and valvoline. You can't beat that with a stick.
Everytime I open a bottle of All-Climate I am taken back to the "back in the day" days.
