Need input on best portable vac for car... Also have boat and maybe house in mind too. Was hoping cordless, good attachments... Cheap to pricey...
No shop Vac!! Thanks for input.

Someone in another thread mentioned the DeWalt cordless vacuum...will work with DeWalt 18V batteries if you already have other cordless DeWalt tools. Looks like there are at least two styles.

Canister: DeWalt DC500

Handheld: DeWalt DC515K

Both get good reviews on Amazon. I like that canister model; can use batteries or AC power cord.

You want the canister much more suction. I have both. The canister is also AC operated (if you run out of battery) and can also take Dewalt 14V batteries of which I have one. And the canister can blow air if needed (I have used it to blow out debris from the cockpit drains in my boat).

Its become my vacuum to do other things in the house like the stairs.

I have that dc500. Interestingly, it runs better on the nano LI-ion than on 120v power. But it isn't what I'd call portable. Sure, it has a handle but it is big.

I recently picked up a black and decker pav1200 vacuum that is a 12v plug in unit. Haven't run it yet, but I'll report back...

IMHO they work at picking up large bits however miserably fail and are frustrating with vacuuming. I use my shop vac or pay $1 at local fuel station with massive vacuum strength.

I purchased a highly rated Amazon portable vacumm. Its poor at best compared to a shop vac and was not worth the $50 paid.

I have the dc500 and use it more than a Ridgid 16 gallon or my new Stihl Se122. I keep threatening to buy another one since my wife keeps on stealing it.

The dewalt does a good job of picking up finer dust like from drywall but sometimes I do wish it had more oomph when vacuuming out my car.

I would buy it again.

What, you got the Stihl wet/dry vac? Nice!

I have the smaller SE 61. Pics/review here:

I would strongly encourage you to start a thread and post pics and your impressions of your Stihl.

I went with the Stihl because it's the cheapest and most widely available way to get one of the high-quality Euro vacs in the US. I've been pretty happy with it.
