Best place to buy 6L80E rebuilt transmission?

Red arrows point to the Engine Oil Cooler fittings on the right side radiator tank.

Can this be done by ourselves with a laptop? In the install guide for the transmission is shows the programming requirements as:

"Pass-thru J2534-compliant vehicle reflash hardware such as CarDAQ-Plus or equivalent: http://www.drewtech.com/products/cardaqplus.html
• GM / AC Delco Service reprogramming subscription
• Hi-speed internet connection
• PC with Windows 7 / USB port / sufficient USB cabling to reach between PC and vehicle"

I use a VCX Nano for all of my GM programming needs. Runs about $120.

I think you're confusing the engine oil cooler lines with trans cooler lines with the "A pair on each side" comment? And the engine oil cooler lines are notorious for leaking
That could very well be, I was just going off a glance, haven't taken all the plastic covers off that would let me get a better look.

It's a 2014 Sierra SLE 2wd, VIN no. 3GTP1UEC8EG287208 if that helps/changes anything. Thanks again

I don't know where in KY you are but if you are in Western Ky, Veach's, near Mayfield, is a pretty good rebuilder.

Had ours rebuilt locally. The shop does about three of these 6L80's a week. Cost us $3,900.
The main thing if you want it to last from all the research I have done is to disable AFM and upgrade the TC to billet as well as the pump and a few other things inside. Also take out the thermostate for the transmisson. You can by-pass it. YouTube videos will show you how, or you can get the lower temp from GM. It opens at 154 degrees if I remember correctly.

I unloaded my 2018 Silverado at 53,000 miles because the (6 speed) transmission was absolute garbage. Changed the transmission fluid at 45,000 miles-installed the cooler thermostat. The way it shifted DID NOT INSPIRE long term confidence.

If vehicle longevity is the goal, how much would a billet torque converter cost as a proactive measure against its failure and the destroying of the trans ?

Looks like a low stall billet lid from transtar is under 600$ plus core. I've contemplated rebuilding mine while it is still working perfect. Hard to do.

Getting into this 6L80E replacement project now. My buddy went with a reman unit from the www.bestbuytransmission.com website, I think the 5 year / 100K warranty swayed him. I'm pretty sure they're just a broker, the transmission came from ETE Reman in Wisconsin, I believe they're a pretty big outfit.

Transmission arrived just fine, have the old one ready to drop, just need to get ahold of a transmission jack. Wasn't really all that difficult getting to this point, I was worried about reaching the top bellhousing bolts, but they weren't bad at all-- real long extension, a short wobble extension for the end & deep well socket was all that was needed. Hardest part was removing the umpteen clips, brackets and little accessories that hold wires and lines on. Hopefully I'll remember where they all go :)

Working on replacing the coolers and lines now, with any luck will have that wrapped up tomorrow after I get off work. Hopefully my friend has the transmission jack figured by this weekend so I can wrap this thing up.

Did it come with an upgraded converter? Edit: That seems like a good price. It's an updated stock converter, not billet.

Yep, no billet converter or anything fancy. I'm just the guy that was willing to put in the labor-- my buddy spent 3-4 weekends at my place helping me put my shop up, so I'm returning a favor. He called the shots on transmission purchase and that's what he went with. If marketing is anything to go by it sounds decent, and the 5 year /100K warranty far surpasses any local transmission shop rebuild which offered something like 1 year/24K...

We're replacing all coolers, lines, etc. so will have all the I's dotted and T's crossed if warranty issues ever popped up.

Here's the marketing. I don't know enough about the revisions / updates to the TC / transmission, but I have hopes it will last at least as long as the original, which made it to 170K.

New transmission is in. No struggles getting the old one out, a light tug and it popped right off. Replaced rear main seal while we were in there. Cobbled together a transmission jack of sorts, but it worked great-- New one went on as easy as the old one came off. I usually don't get that lucky.

Of all the things I could get stuck on, it's the dang vent hose. Anyone have a diagram? It goes from top of the transmission to a T, then from there it branches to a short line with an open end, and a long line that has a breather filter on it. The long line goes up through the transmission tunnel and just ends up there at the back of the engine, but I can't remember how the short line is routed. The obvious placement where I suspect the hose tie down connects @ the transmission IMO puts it too close to the exhaust, but maybe I'm overthinking it.

Ended up finishing the truck on Thursday, been working on it a little bit at a time, as time permitted.

I bought the VCX Nano for programming which was about $130 on Amazon, plus the $45 GM SPS 2-year license. A little bit of head scratching since it was my first time, but it wasn't all that complicated-- the Tech Connect software is sort of clunky but once you do it once, it's easy. I got all modules programmed that had updates/fixes listed for them.

Reset all adaptives and did the fast adapt learn or whatever it's called through my scan tool. No issues, no codes, no leaks, just a good running truck afterward.

We replaced: reman transmission, oil & trans cooler lines, radiator, A/C condensor (aux trans cooler is integrated into it), coolant hoses, lower & upper control arms, front struts, sway bar links, all brakes w/ new rotors, probably some other stuff I'm forgetting. Most of the stuff was needed (radiator & trans/oil cooler hoses were leaking, ball joints had play, etc), but did some stuff because we were in there and at 170K it's cheap insurance. I haven't tallied it all up yet, but probably $1K in parts, plus the $2800 reman transmission.

My buddy has been driving it the last couple days and is thrilled. Thanks to all for the helpful info / advice!

@clinebarger -- We took a gamble on the NHT (enhanced towing) radiator even though the truck wasn't equipped with it. It's identical in every way to the standard radiator, except the core is about 1/4" thicker. Fit perfectly. Oddly enough, the NHT radiator was cheaper than the standard one everywhere I looked, thought you might find that interesting.

Didn't take pics of everything finished as we were in a hurry to button everything up, but have a couple photos of the suspension work.

That's about right.....These are notorious for the Converter failing thus sending massive amounts of fine Steel & Aluminum shrapnel through the unit. Once you buy a new Pump Body, Stator, Pump kit, Shift kit, Master overhaul kit, TECHM (TCM), Billet Front Converter, Program it with SPS2 ($45), Tune it with HPtuners ($100) AND replace the Radiator & auxiliary cooler because the coolers are filled with metal......There isn't much wiggle room.

The only way to do it much cheaper is to cut corners.
I am thinking about replacing the converter and adding a transgo kit on my 6L90 when its out of warranty next year. I tow a 12k fifth wheel and would like to avoid the converter wiping out the trans. Do you have any recommendations on converters ?

Hey man how is this transmission working out? I’m in the same exact situation you were. I’m the mechanic, it’s my buddy’s truck that helped me wire up my shop. Lol I’m looking for a good trans and I came across the company y’all ended up using. My only concern would be the warranty aspect if something did go wrong. Thanks man!
