I've been doing a lot of research on what oil to use. After digging through this forum and looking at the virgin analysis charts on BITOG I have come to this conclusion. Chevron 5w30 conventional. If i were going synthetic I would use Mobil 1 Extended Performance. What do you members think. I do not drive aggressively. Easy going would be my type of driving. I usually only drive about 2000 miles in a 6 month period on each of our vehicles.
Any and all replies would be appreciated.

Thanks,

westex

With your driving habits I wouldn't use anything but dino. The cheapest thing you can find and change it out every 6 months.

Use the Chevron if that's what popped out at you. I think it's fairly inexpensive. I can't see running that Mobil 1 Extended Performance with what you've stated. Even if you ran it a whole year it would still be a waste IMO (of money AND good oil).

Your question is not really best oil for the money. It's best oil for your application.

I would still use a good synthetic for this application. Even if you change it once a year, it won't break the bank. And you wouldn't have to go into BB sweat if you took it to 18 months.

My vote is for the cheapest dino you can find, probably the walmart supertech if you don't want to run all over the place looking for rebates. Trop artic also gets a vote, because there's not much of a price difference between the two anymore. Run them both and sleep well.

Excuse my uhh, ignorance? But I dont understand what the big deal is about finding the "cheapest" oil out there? Why always hunting for rebates? For me $20/5qts Syntec every 5K is a good price. Amsoil was a bit of a stretch for me because I have to maintain my OCI for warranty,so I cant really take advantage of it benefits. Syntec 5w30 is my fav.

My grandpa probably drives 3000mi/year, so after his ARX rinse is complete, I'm planning on running Mobil 1 5W-20 for a year and then getting an UOA...

I would go for Mobil 1 Extended Performance(the extra cost really means nothing on a yearly OCI), but they don't have it in 5W-20...

I am not looking for the cheapest oil. I'm looking for the best oil for the money. I am willing to pay more to get more, just want the best I can get for my application for the money.

Tough crowd westex. After read many posts on this very informative website, my answer would be Motorcraft Synthetic Blend. At less than $2.50 a quart it seems like cheap insurance.

Chevron Supreme with the rebate from Kragen every month, makes it the easy winner in the "Best oil for the money" contest.

Cheveron Supereme and Havoline dino are both very good oils compared to other dinos. And they are usually a tad cheaper. I tend to stick with Havoline just because they are a little more avaliable.

Well, if it were me, I'd be torn between using the Chevron, Havoline, Pennzoil, or maybe any of the Motorcraft/Conoco-Phillips 'semi-synthetic' oil-lines with a six-month OCI; or whether I could use Mobil 1 (non-EP) GC, Pennzoil Platinum, Shell 5W-40, or maybe the Amsoil 0w30 2000 Series and, go the whole year.

But since I actually kind of enjoy changing oil, I'd probably go with the dino.

Note: I would only use Maxlife HM in a car that is actually high mileage, but if you did, you could probably use it for the entire year (with only 4000 miles driven in that time) with confidence since it's semi-synthetic and loaded with a good add pack.

Best Oil for the money?

Depends on the use, as others have said.

For you Valvoline Maxlife on sale with rebate, Pennzoil Platinum with a rebate,

Or Havoline, Troparctic, Motorcraft.

Pennzoil or Castrol GTX if its on sale.

And add some Lube Control LC-20.
