Well, let's break it down. Ideally you would want:

1) 0W-30 weight ... a synthetic so it flows well at start-up ... even in freezing conditions.

2) Strong additive package to deal with fuel dilution, corrosion from moisture in the crankcase and times of extended storage.

3) Strong additive package with plenty of anti-wear additives.

3) Sheer stable formulation to deal with the heat and stress of an OPE engine run at WOT and under heavy load.

Hmmm ... sounds like a HDEO 0W-30 would be ideal ... like this one:

No disagreement from me but GC 0w-30 is easier to find than Delo syn 0w-30. Never seen it anywhere?

When I started this thread I wanted the fastest flowing oil since it is fixed throttle full throttle start. I wore out a set of paddles last winter on my Toro and yes I own the 2 stroke version plus the 4 stroke version. 2 stoke toros call for a TCW-3 rated oil FWIW.

Anyhow I think a slight nood goes to GC 0w-30 since it is closer to a 35 wt at temp and running aircooled singles. Shear stable etc.

I'd also rather have the 12.x cSt, but I'm sure the equipment would survive fine on either.

I've never run across any Delo anywhere on the shelf in my area of Canada. GC is even easier to get here than in the US (Canadian Tire, Parts Source, WalMart, ...).

Now, Esso XD-3 0W30 might be worth looking at too, but it's not on the shelf anywhere I've been either. Walmart has the 0W40 and 15W40 variants very inexpensively.
